RALLY IN TENTH
' BRINGS VICTORY
Finch Blows by Krug and Miller
; Win Hurlcrs' Duel Be-
tween O'Toole and
, HaU.
Marty Krug ami Ward Miller
. brought borne the bacon for their lit
tle playmate, Marty O'Toole, yester
day afternoon artel Omaha copped a
ten-round fray from Joplin, 3 to 2.
The game was hurling duel between
Marty O'Toole and Herb Hall,, whom
V John Savage believes is the classiest
twirler in the Western league. Marty
had an edge on his rival throughout
the game and only Some ragged play
ing prevented Marty from trimming
Herbert in tho regulation nine
stanzas. ,- ,
I Marty only, aljowed the Miners five
hits. He did give four bases on balls
Hiid one of the walks brought in a
run, but he pitched a steady game
' , Hall allowed six hits and gave five
bases on balls.
' - ' Yirdley Triplet. . ,
'- The Rottrkes got the jump on Jop
lin in the second inning. After Shaw
went out. Fin Yardley phed off a
three-base hit to rrght center. It was
some swat, and it so unnerved Hall
that Herbert issued three walks in a
row. Two ,of the walks choked the
runway and the third forced Yardley
over with', a run. O'Toole's sacrifice
fly which Brokaw caught with one
hand, scored Brottem, who got on
bast on Hall's first pass. '
- Joplin scored two in the third
stanza. A walk to Brokaw opened
the round., He took second on Hall's
out and third on Cochran's infield hit.
) Cochran started a steal of second and
. Brottem "heaved the pill into center
. Ire Id. . Brokaw scored and Cochran
cntto third. He counted on Burg's
sacrifice fly to Thompson.
'. Stingy With Hits.
From the third on the game was a
deal pitcher's battle. Both O'Toole
and Hall were stingy with their base
hits and their, mates played nice ball
behind them.
In the tenth .Joplin threatened.
Davis was safe on Krug's error and
after Lamb whiffed, Brokaw singled
to right and Hall walked, filling the
base3. Then Marty pitched. He
forced Cochran to pop up to Cooney
, and Burg to fly out to Miller.
Cooney was called out on strikes to
, open Omaha's half of the tenth, but
Marty Krug shot a safe drive to left.
Brokaw knocked the ball down on the
first bounce with one hand, but Krug
took a long chanoe and raced for sec
ond. He barely slid into the bag
ahead of Brokaw's throw which for-
tunately happened to be a little wide.
Then Ward Miller sent a sizzling
single down the prid base line and
Krug galloped home with tbe winning
'. , talk. 1
The; Rourkes ' and Miners clash
again this afternoon, starting at 3:15.

Earl Caddock to .
Wrestle Eklund at
. Carroll, la., Friday
.Omaha wrestlinar fans are looking
forward to Earl Caddock's match with
Clarence Eklund at Carroll. la Fri
day night with considerable interest.
The go with hkiuna win pe me
champion's first match since his tem
porary retirement from the game last
June. Earl attempted so much work
. . ... . . ? fu :
last winrer ana tnis spring, louowing
his victory over Joe btecherj that he
became run down physically and was
forced totake a rest. 1'hysicians ad
vised a long rest, all summer, at least,
but Earl was so anxious to get back
into the harness that he coulun't wait
until the hot months were over. So
he consented to meet Eklund at Car
roll duiing the county, fair there.
Carl Marfisi, well known Omaha
wrestling impresario, and Gene Me
lady's right-hand man, has taken over
the management of Eklund. Eklund
has been a middleweight around Ne
braska and Wyoming for several
years. He was one of the best middle
weights in the business. Suddenly,
however, Eklund began to put on
weight and he now has reached the
light-heavyweight class and Marfisi
does not believe he has a peer in his
class. He expects to make a good
showing with Caddock:.
"Eklund. of course, is lighter than
Caddock," said Marfisi, "but he'll give
the champion a run for his money.- It
will be a match, don J forget that.
