Notwithstanding that at first today the final paasage of the food control bill did not affect grain value, weakness developed later owing largely to a falling off in demand from distillers, upon whom the new men sure had placed restric tions forbidding the manufacture of alco- hollo beverages.' Corn, although steady at the close, wa o to lo net lower at (116 for December and 11.18 for May. Wheat finlahed unsettled, (0 down, with September at (2.22. The outcome In corn ranged from Uo dec line to e advance, t-rovision wound up unchanged to 26a higher. Although the government estimate or the corn yield wa th largest on record, the total fell short of what a majority of trader had looked for and values advanoad until nurchailne for distiller began to shrink. Price howd a decided downward slant. A further handicap to tne nun wa a report that loading- of Dutch vessel in American water had been stopped and that a a reault there might be reselling ot considerable grain. Wheat like corn, ihowed an early ad. vance, ascribed to disappointment over th cutting down of the government estimate of probable domestic yield of wheat, but when corn value headed down grade wheat followed ault. Relative firmness of oats appeared, due to wot weather.' Ther were also com plaints of car scarcity. Provision soared to new high price rec ords for th season, but receded later on realizing.
