Mites.
The most effective treatment for
the eradication of mites is the use of
carbolineum. Carboliiieum is a very
penetrating oil, containing carbolic
acid, and when once it is painted on
the perches, in the crack3 and crev
ices, about the droppings board, in
the nests, etc., it penetrates the wood
and stays there about he same as
creosote when it is painted on wood.
It carrirwiih it the poisons and the
penetrating oil . and remains there
much the same as a preservative for
several months. No mite wilt ever
go near a piece of Avood so treated
with carbolineum. It is so strong that
should a drop get on the arm while
painting with it a blister will be raised
in a short time.
Common kerosene is very effective
for killing lice, but it does not last
as long as carbolineum. It is nec
essary to spray again in a week or
ten days' time.
Almost any of the dips and crude
oils will kill mites. Generally a 5
per cent solution is all that is nec
essary. A lime-sulphur spray will kill
mites. It also whitens the house
when used as a spray.

ARE DEFHIEO BY
BRITiSHPREMIER
Before Great Patriotic Demon
stration Lloyd George's Ad
dress Marks Termination
of Third Year of War.
London, Aug. 4. David Lloyd
George, the British premier, in the
presence of a distinguished gathering,
representative of all parties whichi
met this afternoon in Queen's Hall
to mark the third anniversary of the
declaration of war, reiterated the
aims for which the entente allies
were fighting and indicated the only
conditions under which they would
consent to a suspension of hostilities
with the central powers.
The meeting was held under the
auspices of the National War Aims
committee and was probably the
greatest patriotic demonstration of
the year. The expectation had been
that the premier's speech would be
a most important one.
i lie marquis of Lrewe, leader of
the liberal party in the House of
Lords, was chosen to preside. He was ;
supported by the archbishop of Can
terbury, twenty members of the gov
ernment and 100 members of Parlia
ment. Uaron Sonnino. the Italian foreign
minister, and Nikola Pacliitch, the
Serbian, premier, were invited guests.
Allies Must Not Stop.
In the course of his speech Pre
mier Lloyd George said:
" ictory must be so complete that
our national liberty never again shall
be challenged.
"Russia learned that an army with
out discipline is a rabbit.
"There are some .here who want
to set up committees for the British
army and direct the conduct of the
war. We cannot allow a sectional or
ganization to direct the war or to
dictate the terms of peace. The na
tion as a whole made war and the
nation as a whole must make peace."
The British prime minister said he
did not trust the German peace tall;.
"Neither the kaiser nor the chan
cellor," he declared, "has yet said lie
would be satisfied with German soil.
They talk glibly about peace but
stammer over the word restoration.
Rcfore we have a peace conference
they must learn to use the word res
toration. So far they have not learned
even the first letter of the alphabet."
Germans Would Try Again.
"War is a ghastly business, but it
is not as bad as their peace. While
they know their plot has miscarried
this time, the Prussian war lords have
determined to succeed the next time.
There must be no next time. This
generation must eliminate war from
the tragedies of human life"
Continuing, Mr. Lloyd George '
said:
"if wc- sow seeds of discontent and
disunion in the nation we shall reap
defeat. A nation which falters be
fore it reaches its purpose wiU'never
become a great people.
"No one in Great Britain, France,
Italy and Russia, or even in Ger
many and Austria, has any idea how
near we arc today to the summit of
our hope."
Tremendous Enthusiasm Aroused.
As Foreign Minister Sonnino of
Italy and the other representatives of
the entente allies reached the plat
form the gathering rose and cheered
again and again, while the playing of
the national anthems of the allies
aroused tremendous enthusiasm.
Premier Lloyd George's appearance
was the signal for a remarkable man
ifestation of popular fervor
The premier on opening his address
asked what would have happened if
Great Britain had not entered the
war. He answered this question by
saying:
"Europe would have been at the
mercy of a cruel military power. Rus
sia would have disintegrated sooner.
France would have fought bravely,
but might have been overwhelmed.
America's Monroe doctrine would
have been treated as a scrap of paper.
The fact today is that we have
checked the ambitions of Germany."
A Fake Story.
Obviously a fake Is that story of the
Yankees who failed to shoot the kaiser.
Had they been Yankees they would either
not have attempted It or they'd have don
