LEVATORS in factories, stores, office buildings
and hotels carry more passengers than ride on
railroad trains. It is very gratifying to note that few elevator ,
accidents occur, and 99 of the few that do occur are the fault'
of the passengers, and not the elevator or operator. Watch your
step when going in or coming out of an elevator. Do not crowd
to get in, wait for the next car. Careless people sometimes fall down the ele-
' vator shaft when the gate is carelessly left open. When in the vicinity of an
elevator shaft, be sure that your "thinking motor" is not dead, and look where
you are going. It is easier to think a little at the top of the shaft than to pick
yourself up at the bottom.

I will not fool with electrical apparatus or air hose or play dangerous
practical jokes on my fellow workmen, or allow anyone else to do so if
I can prevent it.
I will use all safety devices provided and will call the attention of a fel
low workman to his failure to use them.
I will not use a defective tool or machine and will call foreman's atten
tion to theni at once.
I will not wear gloves around working machinery except with fingers
cut down to. second knuckle.
I will turn down or remove-all upstanding nails or spikes. '
I will not neglect to wear goggles while operating grinders or other
machines where I am liable to eye injury from dirt or flying chips.
I will wear close-fitting over clothes and good shoes and will not wear
a flowing necktie around working machinery.
I will do everything possible to further the "Safety First" Movement
in view of the fact that I am the chief beneficiary.
