RODRKES EDGE OUT
OVER THEBOOSTERS
Otto Merz on Mound, Aided
by Krug: and Cooney, Lay
Out Visitors From
Coon Creek.
Omaha took the second game of the
series yesterday by nosing out a 3 to
2 victory from the Boosters. Otto
Merz did the twirling for the champs
and Was knicked oftener tnan both
Bergen and Dressen, who worked for
the visitors, but timely hitting by Krug
and Cooney, allowed victory to smile
on Pa's wonders.
Villiam "Scrappy" Moore was seen
at third base in Joe Burg's place.
Moore has been bought from the St.
Louis Browns, and though he may
prove a little weak at the stick, ,hjs
iirst appearance in an Omaha uniform
was decidedly pleasing. Dressen,
who has been acting as relief pitcher
"or the Coon Creekcrs, began the fray,
but retired after the fourth in favor
of Berger.
Cass started things right by singling
and scored on Moeller's hit to left; In
the second Breen doubled and scored
on Cass' single. In the third the
Rourkes annexed one when Thomp
son was safe at first on a fielder's
choice ind Cooney followed him with
a single.
Shavv pinched for Merz to open the
fateful eighth, Thompson sacrificed
him to second and he scored on
Cooney's timely single. With Smith
at bat and one down Cooney tried 'to
steal third, but thought it best to
avert suspicion by feigning a partial
paralysis of the right umslopagus. But
Granny Breen had his good eye .on
the crafty Ehil-up and nailed him at
third. Earl Smith beat out an infield
hit and Krug lined out the single that
scored the winning tally.
Same blokes today, ladies' day. Then
we'll clear the decks and make way
for the well-nigh extinct Drummers
who will arrive here on the eleventh
providing Jack Holland and the entire
population of St. Joe have not come to
iay the final goodbye by that time.
