Claiborne Visits Son At Riley Training Camp Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Claiborne have returned from Fort Riley, . Kan., where they spent the Fourth visiting their son, Harry, who is in the medi cal training camp at that post. The Fourth at Fort Riley was visitors' day in the widest sense. About 5,000 peo ple, mostly relatives of officers and men, spent the day on the grounds. There were contests and exercises of various kinds in which the different branches of the service competed. One of the most interesting fea tures at the post is the preparations being made for the drafted army. Al ready 400 houses, each large enough to hold a company, have been erected and 2,700 more are in course of con struction. These houses are being built by contractors who have 1,000 men at work. A syndicate has pur chased a tract of ground just east of the military reservation and is laying out a -town, which is to be known as Army City. A few buildings already . are uncjer construction. Many of the farmers near the post have abandoned ordinary agriculture "and gone to raising vegetables for the soldiers. One potato patch of eighty acres lies along the border of the reservation, . Tracts approxi mately as large of onions ancj cab bage are not uncommon. .$200,000 Building on Site Y Of Old Continental Block A hinetynine year lease on the site of the old Continental block, Fifteenth and Douglas streets, which was de stroyed by fire several months ago, as filed with County Registrar Pearce today. The Byers Building and Farm cor portion leases to the Midwest Photo play corporation the property on a rental basis of $15,000 a year, com mencing November 1 of this year. In the same filing was an assignment of lease to the Blank Realty company. A. H.;glank is president of both com panies. It .is ' stipulated that within jhrec years after May 1, 1917, the lessee is to build a three-story and basement fireproof building at a cost of $200, 000. It will be a- motion picture theater. Lindsey, state director of the wom en's department of the Red Cross, re ceived a letter from Eliot Wadsworth, national chairman Of the Red Cross society, saying that because of cable advices from the' allies in Paris and Rome the following supplies are ur gently needed: Three hundred and 'fifty thousand bath robes or convales cent robes, 100,000 pairs of bed socks, 700,000 handkerchiefs, 650,000 hospi tal bed shifts, 450,000 suits of pajamas, 300.000 shoulder wraps, 800,000 pairs of socks, 250,000 pairs of ward slip pers. Chapters are asked to send what they can to the nearest branch ware house at once. Meeting: Postponed The meeting of the Turner Park Red Cross auxiliary which was to have met Wednesday and was postponed because of the Fourth will itip-- cturday morning at the Baird building. Sorority Meets Monday The meet ing of the Delta Gamma sorority war relief circle which was to have been this afternoon at the home of the Misses Nona and Laura Bridges was postponed until Monday because of the funeral of .Mrs. E. G. Polleys, who was a member of the sorority. Woman's League Notes. There will be an executive board meeting of the National League for Woman Service Saturday morning at 10 o'clock at the Hotel Fontenelie.
