the first game from Philadelphia, 5 to
today, but lost the second, 1 to 0.
Marquard had the hPillies at his

tion received by State Treasurer Halli
today. I
The refusal of the government was
conveyed in a message to State
Treasurer Hall from J. Z. Miller,
governor of the reserve bank at Kan
sas City. The government's action
is causing comment around the state
bouse.
It is charged that clerks working
in the departments were urged to sub
scribe to the loan, although it was a
hardship for some of them to do so.
Comment here is to the effect that
the state's money should have been
accepted and individual subscripters
released at their option. .

Seven county treasurers are delin
quent in their remittances to the
state treasurer of funds due the state
for the month of June. These re
mittances must be all in before June
27. The counties not reporting up
to this morning were Cedar, Clay,
Kcya Faha, Garden, Phelps, Valley
and Cuming.

Patriotic Men and
Women of Omaha
THEEE HUNDRED of the finest, sturdiest
young men in this city have enlisted, vol-
untarily, in the Omaha battalion of the
SIXTH NEBRASKA VOLUNTEER REGI- .
MENT. All four companies have been desig
nated by General Phil Hall and captains se
lected. These captains are:
Captain Clint Brome
Captain Frank Whipperman
Captain Phil Risch Captain Oscar Keating
These men are all experienced men and are representa
tive men. The Ad Club, the Rotary Club, the Bar Associa
tion and the business men are all enthusiastically behind
the Omaha battalion. They want to send to the battlefields
of France an organization that all Omaha and the State of
Nebraska may well feel proud of.
As a part of doing their bit, every patriotic man and
woman in the city is urgently requested to constitute him
self or herself a committee of one and bring in at least one
young man of good character and standing by Saturdav
night.
