BARGAIN MATINEE
Sioux City Wins First Game by
Pounding Marty 0' Toole,
But Currie Is Too Much
in Second.
Fifty-Fifty
Omaha and Sioux City split even in
a double bill at Ronrlie.park yester
day afternoon before 4,(100 Sabbath
customers.
Sioux City captured the first fray
of the bargain event 6 to 2, but Earl
Smith, with the generous assistance of
Mr. Connolly, who plays third base
lor trie sioux, evened up honors by
taking the second event in the ninth
inning 3 to 2.
. Marty O'Toole went down to de
feat before BillvRose in the opener.
Bill was too muob for Marty. He
only allowed the Rourkes five hits
while O'Toole was bumped rather
soundly.
The Sioux counted two in the first
stanza, when Gilmore tioubled to right
and Rader pounded a triple to center.
Shag Thompson's fielding of the ball
at the fence was missy and Radcr
came home.
Crosby's single. Brottem's error.
Gilmore s double. Holly's single and
Rader's sacrifice fly scored three for
Holly's men in the fifth and singles
by Connolly, Morse and Mueller and a
wnu pitcn counicu one in llic cigntll.
Score on Thefts.
Omaha scored one in the first on a
walk to Cooney, Smith's hit. Krug's
force out and a double steal by
Cooney and Krug. Singles by Schick
and Broltem and O' J'oole's sacrifice
fly. scored one in the fifth. That was
the extent of the damage done to Mr.
Rose by the Rourkcs.
Murphy Currie. Phil Cooney and
Karl Smith, shared honors in the sec
ond game, although Mr. Connolly, of
course, conies in for a share of the
glory.
Currie hurled a splendid game, al
lowing but three liits and the two
runs scored off him were not his
fault, but the result of very messy
playing by his .nates.
The runs were counted in the sec
ond. Watson walked and stole sec
ond. Brottem made the throw, but
neither" Krug nor Cooney 'troubled
Ihemsleves to cover second so Wat
son went to third when the throw
went through 10 center!". rid. Con
nolly lifted a -.acrilice fly to Smith.
Smith's throw to '.lie plate v.'as h
beauty 'and ban Vaton nailed a!
miic, but fiioitem let the ,tiirov get
a-'ay from him. .
Mueller walked and ptolc second.
He took Mnrd on Crosbys infield
hit and scored when Cooney threw
wild to the plate.
Omaha scored on - in r'ie fifth , on
an error by Radcr. Bradley's sacri
fice, Schick s hit and Brottem's sacri
fice fly.
Cooncy Steals Home.
In the sixth Thompson singled and
i both he and Cooney were safe on a
' fielder's choice. Rug forced Thomp
son at the plate, but Cooney went to
third and a moment later stole home
while Bremmerhoff was winding up,
much to the delight of the paid cus
tomers. Omaha won the game in the ninth.
Earl Smith opened with a double,
went to third on Krug's out and
scored when Connolly erred on
Burg's grounder.
The same teams play today, start:
jng at 3:15.
