Arrest at Butte, Mont.
Butte, Mont., Tune 6. National
Guard troops called by local author
ities fa assist it in averting an anti
war demonstration last night were
withdrawn from the streets at day
light today and returned to barracks
on the crest of the Butte hill. After
the streets were cleared and sixty-five
of the disturbers arrested order was
maintained. Minor injuries were suf
fered by some of those who tailed to
leave north of Main street, the scene
of the disturbance, in the time allot
ted them to disperse.
Major sargeant, commander ot the
troops brought here from Helena to
preserve order during registration
day, announced that they would re
main until all possibility of disorder
in the city disappeared.
According to the police, last night s
trouble resulted from an effort of
some Finns to hold an anti-draft
demonstration.
They were joined by some individ
ual members of the Pearc-Connolly
club, one of whose officers is under
arrest charged with planning the con
spiracy to distribute anti-registration

CHICAGO GRAIN MARKET.
Action of Board of Trade In Fixing Price
or Lttra rua to iroduoe sedative
Effect.
Chicago, June 6. Sensational price ad
vances In the corn market with buying on a
tremendous acale resulted from action of
the Board of Trade directors Monday night
establishing $1.66 a bushel aa a maximum
limit on quotations of corn In store, either
for Immediate or future delivery. The ex
treme consequent jump In value today waa
10o anil the market closed firm; B01Oo
net higher, with July at $1,634 and Bep.
tember at $1.44. Wheat gained 4944c
net and finished unsettled at $2,194 for
July and $1,96 4 or September. The out
come In oata was a rise of 1 02760 and in
provisions a decline of 6022c.
Whatever hopes were entertained that the
fixing of a maximum price would have a
sedative effect on the com market took
flight the Instant tha. trading began. In
atead of reduenng the coat of tha cereitl,
the circumstances that a maximum Itmll
had been deemed necessary acted on the
bulls like the waving of a red flag and
there was a Jump of 94c shown on the
very firm transactions. Apparently the es
tablishment of a maximum had been widely
taken to Imply strength ot bullish predic
tions that unless a limit was set the mar
ket was likely to reach $3. Excessive ritlna
and further unseasonable eold tended like
wise to excite apprehension and ao, too, did
reports that country supplies wore about
exhausted with foreign demand Increasing.
Eagerness to purchase ooru proved h
great that all the other trading pits were
virtually emptied of brokers. Lata factors
Included smallnees of rural offerings, ad
vices that much replanting would be neces
sary and the fact that shippers and Indus
tries had been liberal buyers of corn today
for Immediate delivery, North American
available eupplles of corn were estimated
at 4,866,000 bushels, as against 16,968,000
bushels a year ago.
Wheat and oats hardened berause of
sympathy with corn. Improved crop pros
pects aa to both wheat and oata tended,
however, to offset to a large degreo tha ef
fects of the corn bulge.
Provisions eased down owing to continued
dullness of cash demand and to weakness
In the hog market. Foreign intercuts were
said to have been liberal seller of lard.
