The extraordinary improvement shown by the atock market to- j day wa attributed mainly to the more ; cheerful aapecla presented by the foreign I situation and an abatement of the recent liquidation In rails and utilities. , Tho loan by this government of $100,-, 000,000 to RuHsia had an .extremely favor able effect flu the financial relations be-; twocn tho two countries. Other steel and Iron shares were higher by 2 to 7 points, the greatest gain being made by Superior Steel, a newcomer in this market, which rose from 38 to 46. Colorado Fuel, Hloaa-Shef field Steel, Virginia Iron, Midvafo Steel and Republic Iron were In cluded In the other active and atrong In dustrials. Shipping figured largoly In the day' business, Marine preferred gaining 2 points and Atlantic. Gulf and West Indie 3. Coppers made only muderato advances with oil and motors. Foremost among the utili ties were American Telephone at a gain of point and Ohio Gas, which gained 3. All classes of rails were embarrassed in the Inquiry for that group. Transcontinental, grangers, coaler ana eastern trunk lines registered irregular ad vances of 1 to 2 points. Minor Isauea, com prising the western and southwestern divi sions, also participated In the rise.
