SINGLE COPY FIVE CENTS. bjSjSl. iViu ROURKES SMOTHER BEARSW1TH HITS Mark Up Ten Runs in First Two Innings and Walk Away With Contest by Twelve to One Count. Pa Rourke's tiopefuls had a field day at the expense of the Denver Grizzlies yesterday afternoon, win ning 12 to 1. The Grizzlies, usually a very feroc ious tribe, were a meek and mild out fit yesterday. The Rourkes hammer ed home three runs in the opening stanza and followed up their attack with seven in the second. Incidentally they chased Russell Ford and Man ser to the shower in rapid success sion. Ford started the conflict and was greeted by Joe Burg, the first man up, with a two-ply knock to center. Marty Krug caught a walk and Thompson sacrificed. Earl Smith whanged a double into center, send " ing Burg and Krug over the rubber for enough runs to win the game only the Rourkes wanted to build up their batting averages and made a few more. Bradlye sent a zizzler through Shanley and Smithy scored. Ben Shaw gave the second stanza . a Hying start with a single to left. Irelan walked and Merz sacrificed. Then Burg walked, filling the bases. Manager Marty smacked a single to rignr, scoring Shaw and Irelan, and ending the career of Mr. Ford, Smith Hits Homer. Manser went on the firing line and walked Thompson. Earl SmitljJ not content with only a double, hit the pm over the right held wall for , home run, scoring Burg and Krug aneaa 01 mm. With nobody on base, Big Bill nraaiey started tne jubilee all over again. He sent a single through third and Schick followed with a single to left. Shaw forced Schick at second, hut when drew a throw from Shestak, stealing second and Brad ley galloped home. , Manser lasted through the third without allowing a run, but he had a hard time, so Oakes derricked him and put in young Lefty" Hartman, who didn't do so bad. The Rourkes marked up one on Hartman in the fourth. Bradley walked and Schick sacrificed after which Irelan sent Big Bill home with a triple to left. Make It Even Dozen. Just to make it an even dozen, Omaha added one more in the sev- enth on a single by Merz, Burg sac rifice and Thompson's single to left. wniie me Kourkes were mauling the Bear hurling corps, Otto Merz was throwing a nice, steady game. The Dencerites annexed nine hits, but they were weir scattered and one run was, the best the opposition could do. Otto was given errorless support by his mates. From the Omaha standpoint it was a good ball game, although the lop- iuu score rainer detracted trom the interest.
