JOBBERS WIN WITH
EIGHT HITS IN ROW
Start Flank Attack on Cecil
Thompson in Seventh and
Capture Game, 7 to 4.
SMITH HITS A HOME BUN
Eight consecutive hits in the sev
enth stanza yesterday proved the un
doing of Cecil Thompson and Wichita
walloped Omaha, 7 to 4.
Until the fatal seventh the fray was
a hurling tilt between Cecil and Elmer
Koestner. Each had allowed two runs
and four hits up to that period.
Then the Witches started a flank
attack on Cecil and the pitching duel
.ceased abruptly.
Yaryan started the disastrous frame
with a single to center. Koestner,
Kellerman, Goodwin, Jones, Coy,
Halm and White all followed with
' singles in the order named.
If it hadn't been for the throwing
of Shag Thompson and Earl Smith
the Jobbers might be going yet.
Thompson cut Kellerman down as
the plate with t perfect peg and, aft
er catching Davis' fly. Smith doubled
Coy at the rubber with a great throw
from deep left It was an 8 to 5 bet
Coy would score after the catch, but
Smith's throw was absolutely perfect
and Brottem tagged him out stand
ing.up. The Rourkes put over one run in
the opening frame on an error by
Davis, Burg's sacrifice and Smith's
double,
Cecil Thompson's single, two in
field outs and Shag Thompson's in
field hit counted one more in the third.
. Smith Hiti Homer.
The Rourkes made their other two
runs in the eighth on a walk to Burg
and Smith's home run over the right
field fence. The pill soared forty feet
over the wall. . . . .
Wichita counted two in the fourth
on Coy's hit, Bradley's miscue and a
triple by White. Hits by Kellerman
and Goodwin and Burg's wild throw
netted one in the eighth.
The Rourkes and Jobbers clash
again this afternoon at Rourke park,
starting at 3:15.
