Carriers Here on a Visit
Luke Usher, who came to Omaha in
1867 but left here yean ago and Uvea
in Los Angeles, is spending two days
here enroute to Cleveland, Ohio, on
business. He called at the postoffice
and renewed acquaintance with As
sistant Postmaster Woodard. '
Mr. Usher was one of the four let
ter carriers who were appointed when
Omaha first got the free delivery sya
tem in 1873. One other of these four
has been in continuous service and ii

bins. "Those were the days," aid Mr.
Usher. "None of the .citv streets were
paved and in rainy weather they were
filled with tht stickiest mud I ever
saw. I remember I roomed with An
