To Tell the Called Party
"Wait a Minute, Please,"
is Telephone Discourtesy
A telephone conversation cannot begin until
the calling party and the called party are on the
line at the same time.
Business men are frequently annoyed when
they answer the telephone by being told by
someone in the office calling, ."Please wait a
minute", and then being foroed to neglect their,
work while they wait until the calling party is
ready to talk.
, Most busy business men in using the tele
phone practise courtesy, as they themselves ex
pect it of others. They ask for the telephone
number themselves and hold the receiver to
their ear until the called party answers.
Courtesy Improves the Service
Courtesy is a factor in good telephone ser
vice. The calling party should be ready to talk
as soon as the called party answers.
It is not a kind act to request your private
switchboard operator or office girl to interrupt
a busy man and ask him to "wait a minute"
until you are ready to talk to him.
' Telephone courtesy is no more than doing to
others as you would that they should do unto
you.

KAMARAD ESCAPES ,
FROM JAIL AT ORD
Self-Confessed Murderer of 13-Year-Old
Girl Tunnels His
Way Out of Prison.
HIS TRIAL SET FOR TODAY
Ord, Neb., April 3. (Special Tele
gram.) Louis Kamarad, aelf-con-iessed
murderer of Alice Parko.
escaped from the Valley county jail
during the night and is at large. Sher
iff Bell returned with the prisoner last
evening from Lincoln, where Kamarad
had been held at the state penitentiary
for safekeeping, preparatory to being
arraigned in the district court this
morning.
Two guards were left on duty by
Sheriff Bell when he went home late
last night. Guard Rockhold says that
he knows Kamarad was in the cell at
5 o'clock this morning.
There are indications that Kamarad
went to Miskos' slaughter house on
the dge of town, broke in and took a
32-caliber rifle with fifty shells. There
are reasons to believe that he secured
an automobile, although no one has j
reported such a loss.
Five hundred men responded when
the fire bells were rung as alarm this
morning and every part of the coun
try is being searched by armed posses.
The new barn of David Haught, be
tween Ord and North Loup, burned
during the night, and it is alleged that
the automobile that wa. kept therein
is missing. District court is suspended
today while attorneys and court offi
cers are joining the search. A brick
partition between the county jail
rooms and the coal room in the base
ment was tunneled through.
Kamarad was left at 10:30 last
night locked in. an iron cell in the
custody of two guards, Tom Rock-
hold and Will Wigent. When his
escape was discovered at an early
hour this morning the lock to the
cell had been opened without break
ing, indicating that he had been as
sisted gaining access to the corridor.
He had broken through a brick wall
where the water pipes enter the jail
room. The chips of brick indicated
that the work was done from the in
side, but no tools were left to show
how it was done.
Joe Parks, father of the murdered
girl, is active in the pursuit and that
particular neighborhood is aroused.
