UNI PROFESSORS COMING Reports of serious damage to the winter wheat plant and not war gave wheat prices the greatest boost in the history of the Omaha grain mar ket. These reports indicated that w in ter wheat throughout a large portion of southern Nebraska and northern Kansas, so far as the coming season's crop is concerned, is gone, that fields will be plowed up ana tne grouna planted to corn or some other grain. The Omaha market opened a cent higher than the close Monday and ran rapidly up, closing 3,'4(S:5 cents above anv previous top. Prices generally ranged from $2 to $2,06 per bushel, with one carload of No. 2 hard selling at $2.08. This carload of wheat came from St. hrancis. Kan., consigned to the Vincent Grain company and sold j to O. M. Smith, Missouri Valfey, la., for milling purposes. No. 3 hard, on which the previous high has been $2, sold at $2.06 per bushel. Meeting Here Wednesday. The wheat crop situation is looked upon as being so serious that Wed nesday afternoon a meeting of grain men, farmers and University ot Ne braska crop and soil experts will be held in the trading room of the Oma ha Grain exchange- at 3 o'clock to consider conditions relative as to what is to be done in the matter of cropping the wheat fields that will have to be plowed up. Like wheat, corn went to another high mark, selling up to $1.17 per bushel cents over the previous high price. The receipts for the day were forty-one carloads and the prices ranged between $1.161.17 per bushel. Oats reached another top price, sell ing at 63J4 cents per bushel, with all the sales being made at 62or better. The receipts were fifteen carloads. Canadian subscriptions will be consiaeraniy beyond the $150,000,000 asked for. The Canadian finance minister de clared he was "much pleased at the friendly interest of the citizens of the United States in the issue." Get the Right Number From the Telephone Directory Whenever a wrong number is given to the telephone operator, your time is wasted, your service is delayed and its value decreased, and the party called is uselessly annoyed. Quite often a personal telephone list, not kept up-to-date, furnishes a wrong number, or a hasty glance at the directory results in a call for the number on the line below or above the one wanted. x The largest number of errors result from de pendence upon memdry. Frequently 4-5-6 Is called for when 5-4-6 is wanted. If you are in doubt about a telephone number, please look it . up in the directory. Please Speak Distinctly Not talking directly into the transmitter, not speaking clearly, or calling your number too rapidly, frequently causes the operator to mis understand. " If you acknowledge the operator's repetition of the number and correct her if she repeats it incorrectly, many misdirected calls will be pre vented. ' If you speak in an ordinary tone of voice, giving the desired number slowly and distinctly, after looking it up in the directoryyou may be surprised how it will improve your telephone service.
