Weakness In Barrett company Issues was
attributed to the announcement of a new
stock Issue, the common share making a
gross decline of Sft points. Studebaker
was heavy at the outset, but made up the
greater part of its loss on hurried srort
covering. Total sales aggregated S78.000
shares.
General news of the day included Jan
uary statements of the Reading system and
the Chicago & Northwestern .railroad, th
former abowlnr a decided deorease in profits
from operations and the latter disclosing a
substantial net gain.
The bank statement again upset calcu
latlons with only a nominal actual cash
gain and In expansion of almost 161,000,000

In the loan account, reservea contracting
about $3.000, M0. Trading was unusually
light, Irregular with total sales, $1,660,000.
With the exception of registered 4s, which
gained per cent, virtually all other gov
ernment bonds and Panama Issues were
lower by fraction to a point, on call, dur
ing the week.
