SINGLE COPY FIVE CENTS. s of the Week in Social CALENDARS; and Club Circles; THE obvioi is that I fact, gentle' reader, it. the long-tooked- 1 for, is tipou us. According to y all anticipations this situation shouM immediately be de noted by a cessation ot entertainment, an increase in sewing circles and a lack of patronage at juch worldtv place as theater? and hotel di'.iinr rooms. The mystery ot ti lies in thisthat whiie there arc undoubtedly- more sewing . clubs, other amusements seem to iollow their usual coprse with serene unconcern. ' It is true that many people are taking this opportunity to hie them away where birds sing sweetly amid green leaves swayed by balmy breezes blowing from a clear blue sky. They are going to join all the other mem ber! of the Omaha family, who are, as the headlines say, "sojourning in warmer climes." The people who have been away and come home to find snow and ice in place of heat and sun shine, shiver and regret that they have not prolonged thejr visits. Others have found unpleasant weath er and are glad to get back to Omaha, where, at least, they can be com fortable in their own homes. K gen erous sprinkling of Oinaha travelers may be found in all the popular win ter resorts of America and the Pacific. The last week has not been an un- pleasant one at home. The really eventful .happening of the week was the coming of ' "The Port manteau Theater Friday evening. under the auspices of the Drama League. Such, a crowd as the old theater has seldom seen even in its most balmy days gathered for the novel entertainment. Parties were numerous, but the. groups of people who came by twos and threes, really prominent people, too, made up the bulk of the house. Regret No Mardi Gras BalL One thing we did not have last week. The failure to have it has caused th young people much regret and from the standpoint of a society writer its failure to come to pass was a sad misfortune. That one thing was the Mardi Gras ball. ine situation no aotiDt justmea tne cancellation 01 tne anair, out, judging from similar events in other cities, it would have been a huge success. I'or instance, last weex in san rrancisco the papers heralded the approach of their Mardi Gras ball with the joyous headlines, "Now Comes the Long-Anticipated Mardi Gras Ball."
