The Roentgen department of the
Ford hospital, with its X-ray appar
atus installed at a cost of $5.510. is
the equal of the most modern and up
to date in this section of the country.
W ith the machine it is as easy to see
through a person as it is to see an
object through a window pane.
The department occupies six spe
cially constructed rooms in the base
ment. Because of the danger to the opera
tor, the operating room is lined, with
lead as a precaution to keep the rays
from coming through. It has been
found that the rajs affect persons
who continually work around X-ray
machines.
A very high current is necessary to
operate tiic complicated apparatus.
In the transforming uumi the elec
tric current is raised from -JO voljs
to 85,000.
In the radiographic room pictures
are taken, which are then developed
in a special dark room. Perhaps the
most important place of the depart
ment is the eystoscopic room. Here
a silver solution, usually silver iodide,
is injected into the kidneys before
X-ray pictures of the elimination or
gans are taken. The ileuroscopic
room completes the department.
lit the room where SiU baths are
taken a special marble control table
is used, from which the operator di
rects his work. Two massive white
marble benches are alo in this room,
serving the purpose of shampoo ta

baths, in slill another the electric
and so on down to the Xuheim baths.
