Hons -Hog receipts today , in . in : in , in .1401 1 10 1 10 I 00 I 10 I 10 promised to smash tha new record of 419 cars, or 24,144 head, made yesterday. Early estimates placed the run at 429 toads, or 14,999 bead, aad as suDDlies have been overruolns every day thla weak It would not be surprising If the oOelal totals showed 2C9 loads got In. So far this week receipt have been 191.921 head, which la 41.909 heavier than : a week age. 21,000 larger than two weeks I go and 29,290 more than were here during tha Mrntiwsslnc days laat year. Altheturh yostarday's close waa alow aad, If anything, aaater, than any olber time of day, thera were no quotable reductions rom early prices and almost everything that waa yarded before 1 o'cteok was cleaned up. Tralna that did not get la until late In tho afternoon carried a number of cars which wei carried over for today and count In today's receipt. ' After holding up well under tho Aood of hogs for two days the market anally showed tho effect of the big run this morn ing, prices suffering a aharp setback. First packar bids wore a much as lie lower, but buyers soon bettered theee and before raid forenoon a (roe movement waa In arogreei at figures that wore generally around ltvc lower than yesterday. Shippers weat slow ly again, fit Hag their orders, which wore mostly for good light butchers at prioas that wore dime to In most eases loo lower. If aaythmsj trade got s little better after tho oponkac and plenty of sales wore made that did not look to be over a dime lower than yesterday. Lights showed tho ssual uoovonoss.' but a a general thing moved at a boat tho ammo reduotloLs as other grades. aThlpsora In tho end proved to bo fairly heavy buyers, as they stayed In tho market ail forenoon. At midday moot of tho hogs that had soon yarded were out of first haada. There were still' bettor ' than 190 ears ont While on paper vsJwes looked mostly llo tower, It Is likely that at least half of tho Individual sales mads up to noon were no more than a dime lower, as buyers all ooraplsinod that tho quality waa not no good as yesterday, and the percentage of light hogs seemed to bo greatly Increased. Balk of the offertnim moved at 111. 1093 11.99. with senas plain mixed and under weight bu aches under that The boat price that had bee reported was $11.19. Kepreoeatattve sates ; No. Av. 8b. Pr. Anxiety regarding export prospects for wheat was greatly sharpened by the dink- ins of the Britten paasengar nner uemor nla. Aside from emphasising the chances of a wider breach between Germany and the United States, the loss of tne vessel seemed to be taken by a majority of traders aa Indicating that hopes ot successful run ning of the submarine blockade had per hus been overestimated. Notice that all Dutch porta had been ciosea oy oraers ox th Dutch mlnletrr of marine gave reasoi for additional uncertainty and this was In tensified temporarily by false rumors tnat Preetdent Wilson had arranged again to address congress. Railway difficulties, both In regard to overtaxed facilities and con cerning strike pre poet were further handi caps for the nulls. Transient rallies which took place In the wheat market during the laat half of the session were ascribed largely to tne Tart that representative of the British govern ment were here today conferring with rail road oRlctals In an effort to get grain and provisions forwarded more promptly to the seaboard. There also were advices that ex porters were Inquiring for wheat at SL Loots. No sales, however, of wheat bt to Knrone were cenflrmed. Corn sagged at ttmes with wheat, hwt only to a limited extent. Bcarctty or rural of ferings acted as an offset and so, too, did the lightness of recelpta Oats had no In dependence. Trade was In the main of local character. Speculative buying strengthened provisions after an early downturn. The Initial weakness was due to declines In the value of hogs and grain and to the on-, promising outlook for business with Europe. uasn iTieeo" wnea,; n. a reu, ouiiuubi , No. 1 rod, 1T1; Noa. British Blacklist Doesn't Invalidate The Contracts Made (Correspondence of The Associated Press.) Shanghai, Dec. 29. Jndge Lobin- gier of the United State! court for China, has rendered a rerdict against Swajrne & Hoyt, incorporated, an American company, engaged in the shipping trade, which has a vital bearing on the attitude of Americans toward the English black-list and is attracting wide attention. The American company, which is represented in Shaghai by Jardine, Matheson & Co., an English corpora tion, refused to accept freight from Leverett, a Shanghai forwarding agent, because the freight was the property of Germans or other per sons who were on the British black list. Consequently space was denied on the defendants' steamship Yuca tan, sailing from Shanghai for Japan ana San Francisco last May. Japanese steamship companies accepted the freight, but at a higher rate, and the rerdict of $2,700 granted to Leverett against the American carrier was for the difference in freight rates. Everett was first denied space on the Yucatan on the ground there was no space. Other cargo was accepted after this statement was made to him. Evidence produced in the trial showed that Jardine, Matheson & Lo., finally told Everett the cargo could not be accepted because the British consul general would not give his approval. In .his decision against the carrier Judge Lobingier held that the mere fact that the company was represent ed in Shanghai by English agents did not free it from responsibility from the loss the defendant suffered as a result of the discrimination made against his cargo by foreign agents who complied with tnghsn regula tions in violation of American law. As yet no appeal has been lodged against the decision. Were the de fendants to appeal, the hearing would be in the circuit court of appeals of the Ninth Judicial district, which sits in aan hrancuco.
