Th wheat market waa vary unsettled to
4ay and during the early hours had a bear
ish tendency, although It later advanced
and eloaod steady on May and o higher
on July. The trade l generally bullish on
wheat and corn, but any occurrence that
will delay th distribution of oif wheat
would act boorishly, and th recant sub
marine activities is on of th present bear
ish factors. But in spit of this th
Ku repean demand eonttnues strong and ex
porter are taking wheat a taut 'a It oan
be snipped, although today' export demand
was not particularly active.
.-Corn waa strong today and did not fol
lew th drop In wheat, th closing priee on
Beth May and July earn being higher.
. Although th oaah oata situation 1 not
very strong, there was a pretty good ex
port inquiry and the closing prtosa on thi
trifels ware steady, the May closing at

CMcaro, Jan. $4. Unfavorable crop re-
porta from Kansas, Nebraak and Oklahoma
"did. a good deal today to strengthen tho
July and September deliveries of wheat, but
. were Ineffective as to the Hay option. Tbe
- markM closed nervous at $1.84 01. 844 for
May and $1.8301.08 for July, with the
t market as a whole e off to Xe up as
compared with yesterday' finish. Com
guinea 6 to c a.nd oats a shade to o.
Z i'he outcome In provision ranged from 7 ftc
rf.iectln to 6a advance.
. i According to a leading authority, aijvlces
. regarding more than half of the Kansas,
-Nebraska and Oklahoma crop were adverse
on account of a lack of moisture and be--jv
cause of absence of snow protection. In
1 Kansas, especially, the outlook was said to
. be decidedly unfavorable owing to the addl
ilooal drawback of high winds. Before
, the circumstances were fully appreciated.
however, the market showed considerable
-wr,knea as a result largely of the aloof-
iifs of foreign buyers, as well aa because
'of continued peace talk and German naval
activities. Gossip that France would bit
willlnc to accept a league to enforce peace
'If tb plan Included limitation of armament
1 led at on time to a noticeable though tran
sient dip In value.
Announcement of biff export clearances
- helped to harden wheat prices In the last
v- halt of th day. Beside, primary receipts
. , tver small at 000,000 bushel, a against
1,305,000 bushel last year. In addition,
-1 wm Improvement of shipping facilities was
"s reported. On the other baud, nw export
purchases war said to aggrogat only 200,
" 000 bushels.
v Big export taking at corn, estimated at
1.000.900 bushels, put strength Into that
cereal. It was predicted that Argentine
shipment hereafter would be greatly dlmln
.. trihed If not altogether stopped. Oat rose
with corn. Sales of 600,000 bushel of oat
' to Europ were reported.
Higher quotation on hog lifted pro-
visions. British cable telling of apprehen
sion a to a possible shortage of -upplles
tended further to stimulate buying.
