Kxport Demand Caosee the Wheat Market U Bally After Raxty Decline. Chicago, Dec 39. Notwithstanding con tinued export buying, much bearish senti ment developed In the wheat market today, owing mainly to Indefinite peace rumors and to uneasiness over possibility of railway atrlkes. Quotation closed heavy, to 4c net tower, with May at 11.70 to 11.70 and July at 11.26 to H-S. Corn and oat both finished He off to a like advance. In provisions the result was a decline rang ing from 22c to St. 06. At first the wheat trade did not seem greatly Impreased by the chance of an in terruption to railway traffic, and soon showed a Kubetanttal recovery from mod erate early declines that were associated with Initial downturns In Wall street value. The display of strength In the wheat mar ket, however, proved brief, and although after midday another temporary bulge took place, the general tendency was to a lower level. Export sales of 1.400.000 buahel In the last twenty-four hour were announced, but the bullish effect was largely offset by word of British government selling at Win nipeg. The amount said to have been dis posed of. in the Canadian market did not seem of any special significance eicept that about the same time vague goeslp waa cur rent Implying the peace outlook had as sumed a more promlalng aspect. It was Just aa the wheat market was ap proaching the close that bearish pressure. which waa said to be more or loan connected with the railroad wage difficulty exerted a distinct Influence. Weakness In the last fifteen minute of the session was virtually simultaneous with the receipt of dispatches from New York saying 400,000 railroad em ployes had been officially called on by the leaders to decide the next step In the con troversy over the operation of the Adam- son act. Corn showed considerable realatanCe to the depressing Influence of wheat. The com parative alrength was due largely to opin ion expressed that recent high price of hog warranted an advance In the value of feed. Oat merely duplicated the action of corn. There was a. fair demand from the beard. Heavy deliveries on December contracts weakened provisions, besides there was a notable falling off In prices of hogs. t'an rrtcee Wheat: No, j and 3 red and No, I hard, nominal; No. 2 hard, H.794- Corn: No. 1 yellow, t3tfS4e: No. 4 yellow. 814 0904c; No. 4 white, 84 0 91o.
