This is In fact the s ma Moat run for the opening day of the week since July, being lees than half as arcs as otiner last week or two weaka and smaller than a year ago by 1,600 bead, AU cond' lions favored the selling side this morning. Prices at last week's oloee were considered by many to be a little out of Une with Chicago, and with very light receipts sellers started out to remedy this condition by asking sharply higher prices, some of them pricing their holdings as high as $18.00,4 a half dollar above Friday, of course, they had to modify their Ideas a mile, btu In the end they got a good share vf what they were aakint, for, movement starting in good season, with some lambs euing ruuy ivo nigher than the close of Jest week, with others 160 "0 up. By mid forenoon several loads had Mhi $12.86 for a new reooru, with quite a bit wi bibb soaiierea iron fii.se to $12.76, : tfiweo were orally called about a quar ter t 'her. One big string of rangers brought $3.60, a new record for the season, and they, were not choice, either, beet klnda being nominally quoted a IHUe higher than tiiaL Others of a desirable kind reached $10.46. Tbe feeder supply was scant, consisting almost twnilrsly of small packages, and so there was really no opportunity to teat tut tbe strength of the market. Single decks sold as high as fll.ovoi2.oo and buyers were not back ward about expressing the opinion thst a real good bunch of feeders would hav ut 11 w record by selling above $12.00. Trading In today's market was governed largely by the cousrs or foreign affairs and a late rise In call money to 10 per cent the profeaslonal ele ment utilizing these developments to de press the general list. In point of fact the 10 per cent money rate was more or less artificial, most loans being renewed at half that rate or lower. Some public liquidation occurred as a re sult of the political conditions In England and France and apprehension was height ened by further declines In Anglo-French fives and city of Paris fi to a new low records. Incidentally Austrian exchange registered a new minimum with further utisettlement In marks. Early prices were mostly above last week's final quotations, the favorable bank state ment and the United States Steel November tonnage report being viewed as bullish fac tors. The Hst reversed Its course before the end of the first hour, however, with lowest prices toward the feverish close. Leading shares showed net declines of 1 to 2 pointK, with a Iohs of 16 points for Bethle hem Steel -on a single transatclon. treasure was most pronoynced In the Copper group, prominent equipments and munitions, shipping shares and rails. Invest ment Issues In the latter group yielding 1 3 points on moderate offerings. United States Steel held steady for a time, but fell more than a point on the more exten sive selling of the later dealings. Among the few noteworthy exceptions to the lower trend were Ajax Rubber, which was over 4 points to the new high record of 89c and Central Leather, the latter, however, forfeiting much of Its 2c ad vance. Ohio Gas was the only utility to dis play marked strength at a grows gain of 5 points. Total sales of stock, 1,026,000 shares. Sentimentally at (cast, today's market was affected by the further break In com modities, especially cotton, and advices from the weat. where the agitation resulting from the Increased cost of necessaries has caused speculative Interests to modify their com mit tine 11 1. Chicago, Dec, 1 1 .Virtual tr,nn export buying of wheat and the fact that umii uiauranco rates on the Atlantic had been completely withdrawn proved a heavy v.uh wur r nuiaers 01 wneat, espe cially as the submarine Issue with Ger many la more acute. The market closed weak. c to 2o net lower, with May $1.76 to $1.76 and July $1,471, to $1.48. Corn lost 01o to 11o, oats o to lo, and provisions 6c to 47 o. Although at first bullish foreign advices inueu 10 mi me wneat market, a n hB iuuk piace wnen nopes of a better kluropesn demand began to dwindle. Scarcity ot supplies In Oreat Britain and elsewhere gave only temporary advantage iu mo ouun. ana mere was but little at tention paid to reduced estimates of yield In Australia Dry weather complaints from Kansas were likewise oulcklv d tu rn lased. Meanwhile an advance in marine insurance cnarges acted as a discourage ment to buyers and the bearish effect was soon emphasised through notices that of fers of war-risk rates of the Atlantic ocean had been cancelled altogether. It was at about this juncture that word came from Washington telling of views there that German submarine commanders had clearly violated the German agreement with the United States. A sharp falling off in the domestic ris ible supply total rallied the wheat market lata In the session, but as tn the case of the upturn In prices at the opening the change was not of a lasting sort. It was discovered that the Buffalo stocks afloat were not Included in the total, and this circumstance, together with the general uncertainty of the ocean shipping situa tion, caused a new rush to sell as the day reached an end. Announcement that railway embargoes would halt ahlpments of corn to Balti more put the corn market on the down grade. Previously the market was firm. In sympathy with a sharp advance in quo tations In Oreat Britain, where consump tion was said to be liberal owing to the scarcity and , dearness of other grains. Oats trade was small. Absence of Inquiry from the seaboard had a bearish Influence. Provisions gave war on account of hi deliveries of lard on December contract uesiaes, exports last week were much short of what had been looked for. cntcago lean Prices Wheat: No. 2 red, 1 61.6691.7$; No. t hard. $1.76: No. 2 hard. nominal.
