Who are the, Greeters? They are
tire fellows who greet the traveling
public when that public waltzes up io
the desk in any hotel in America.
They are the hotel clerks. Only they
are not all here from all over the
United States. Those in Omaha to
day are from Iowa and Nebraska.'
They, are the delegates to the
twelfth annual convention of tne Nebraska-Iowa
Hotel Clerl.3' associa
tion They will be here (or two days,
and they have a full program of busi
ness and pleasure.
Wednesday morning they enrolled
and paid their annual dues at the sec
retary's desk at the Merchants hotel.
At noon they lunched at the Henshaw
hotel. The general sessionsaare being
held at the castle hotel.
J The are 225 members of the as
sociation m the two states. Hotels
must be run even when the clerks are
away frolicking, so the boys can never
all get away at once. About seventy-five-
frbm out of town are expected to
attend this year. About forty of
thex registered before noon. -

Quick Reaction.
The Wilson announcement caused
a quick upturn of the market and be
fore the close cash wheat yas selling
all the way from $1.64 up to S1.73W
per bushel, an advance of 46 cents
ever the Iuesday prices. . At the
same time the July option was 8 cents
up, with, the Ma'y not far behind.
. Omaha wheat receipts were fifty
six carloads and everythingjvas. sold
out long before the closeV
Corn went along in sympathy with
wheat, gaining 22;4 cents per bushel
over the prices of Tuesday. The
sles. were made, at 85!487 cents
per bushel. Receipts were fifty-three
carloads.
Oats were i'A fents up. selline at
H'A53 cents per bushel,"' with re
ceipts at twenty-four carloads.

C (j. Stringfield of Ewihg, Neb.,
stopping in Omaha at the Merchants'
hotel, met up with a stranger, who
guided him into the dimly lighted re
gions below Fourteenth street. At a
convenient dark spot the stranger
slugged Stringfield over the head,
took $18 in cash from his perS.on and
then put Stringfield in a dry goods
box at Tenth and Dodge streets, in
which state of incapacity he was dis
covered by a passerby when daylight
arrived.
Commercial Club ...
Plans for Election
A nominating committee consisting
of Henry F. Wyman, George T. Mor
ton and Herbert M. Rogers has been
appointed by the Commercial club to
compile a list of nominess for places
on the board of seventy-five directors
to be elected January 10. Under the
present system a certain number of
directors are to be elected from each
principal line of business in the city.
Candidates must therefore be selected
with reference to their business.
January 13, throe davs after elec
tion, the new boara of seventy-five di
rectors will meet and elect its execu
tive committee of twenty-four men
from among the directors. On Janu
ary 16 thejiew executive committee
will meet and elect its chairman and
other officers of the club. '

Burglars Enter Two Homes

reports to the police that burglars
forced their Way into his home by
breaking open a pantry window. A
suit case, watch and watch fob to the
total value of $25 were stolen. -
A watch, bracelet, locket and purse
netted $48- to burglars, who pried open
a rear window and ransacked the

year's convention, but he came up
smiling, 'although a little thin.

J. F. I.rtton, manager of the Hotel
Fontenellc, was expected to appear
on the program for a talk, hut he can
not gel here, since he recently under
went a serious operation at Rochester,
Minn. He is reported as improving,
however, and will probably arrive in
Omaha before the convention finally
adjourns. i
Sam S. Foster of Mason City, Neb.,
is to take the place of Mr. Letton on
the program.

C. W. Hayes. When the aims of the
North Omaha Consumers' league
