.A real submarine mine, the kind
they use in the present war, hat ar
rived at the local navy- recruiting
office and will be placed In the new
recruiting: station ' at Fifteenth ind
Douglas streets (or display purposes.
The mine i the newest of its kind
added to Uncle. Sam's navv and is set
off by mechanical mens instead of
electricity, as the older mines were.
In use it it anchored under the water
and explodes, when -tipped to an up
riaht position or suddenly jarred. It
holds a charge of forty pounds of wet
guncotton, in the center ot which is
placed dry guncotton, which it set off
by a fulminate mercury cap. - -
A new thirty-seven millimeter gun
which is capable of shooting three
one-pound projectiles a second will
also be on display. Several of the
latest 106-pound shells used with six
inch guns have also arrived,

Missouri Pacific freight yards here.
The enlargement of the Missouri
Pacific freight yards contemplates the
laying of a large number of sidings
and spur tracks on the company prop
erty at Ralston, connecting them up
with tracks from the Belt1 Line. It is
not likely that anything in the way of
building will be dona this fall, but, ac
cording to Mr. D'Bernardi, the plant
will be worked out during the winter,
so that active operations may begin
early next spring.

In the Brandeis stores the scenic
reproduction of Yellowstone park is
such a faithful replica of the national
Yellowstone park that those who have
seen it tell their neighbors about it
and the crowd grows from day to day.
The auditorium on the third floor of
the Brandeis stores has been filled to
overflowing at every recent perform
ance. It is an education for those
who have never seen the park and a
joy to those who have. The exhibit
will run until Saturday night.
