Suspended Fine on Two
For Talking Too Loudly
Elmer Henley and Mary Todd, Six
teenth and Cuming streets, both col
ored, were arraigned before the police
magistrate charged with fighting. The
weapons for the duel were the Eng
lish language. The blows came so
fast and furious that the linguistic
combatants awakened the neighbors,,
who in turn aroused the police. Both
were fined $25 and costs, which was
later suspended on promise of less
oratory.
Dean Tancock at House of
Hope Public Reception
Dean Tancock of Trinity cathedral
spoke Thursday night at a public re
ception in the House of Hope, Flor
ence. George West, jr.. Glen Paxton
and Arline McCreary furnished music
for the evening. . i
Another reception will be held to
night. George H. Payne, chairman
of the directorate, wants to have as
many as possible come out and be en
tertained for an hour or two. There
will be no soliciting.
