GRAIN AND PRODUCE
Cash Wheat Prices Take Tum
ble on Very Slow Market
Bun is Heavy.
OOEN RECEIPTS ARE LIGHT
Omaha, October 11, UK.
On account of Its unsteady biture mar
ket the cash grain market was very slow
today and prices ruled from lc to 1c lower.
The wheat run continued heavy, but the
traders could not get together, and as a
result a largo part of the samples were
held ovar until Friday's market. This dull
ness, however, was not caused by a lack of
demand, but more on account of the condi
tion of the future market, and the sellers
are inclined to the belief that better prices
will Drevall on the next market day,
The corn market was also very slow
and receipts of this cereal continued vere
light. There were a few sales of yeiiow
exnd mixed corn reoorted. but ths offerings
of white corn were very small, and none of
these samples were sold. No. 4 yellow
corn today sold at Me and ths mixed com
of the better grades sold from 12 o to
save.
The oats market was not much affected
by the dullness In wheat and corn and
there was a pretty good demand for this
cereal at about He lower.
The bulk of the samnles graded No,
white and sold at 44 Me, and the No. 9
white and standard sold at 44A44ttc.
The receipts of rye were good and there
was a fair demand for this grain, ths No. 8
grade selling at tl.lt and ths No. t at
1. is.
The trade In barley was very dull, and
this cereal was quoted nominally un
changed. Clearances were: Wheat and flour equal
to 716, 000 bushels; corn, 10,000 bushels;
oat, i 01, 000 bushels.
Liverpool close Wheat steady to He
higher: corn, UOlo higher.
Primary wheat receipts were l,73,DO0
bushels and shipments 1,074,000 bushels,
against receipts of 8,47ft,000 bushels and
shipments of 000 bushels last year.
primary corn receipts were 613,000 bush
els and shipments 441,000 bushels, against
receipts of 1,174,000 bushels and shipments
of 737,000 bushels last year.
rnmary oats receipts were 1,731.000 bush
els and shipments 7SS.00O bushels, against
receipts of 1,921.000 bushels and shipments
Of 1,361,000 bushels last year.

CHICAGO GRAIN AND PROVISIONS.
Wheat Weakened on Report of Heavy Pur
chases In A us trails.
Chicago. Oct. 11. Wheat values weak
ensd largely on account of reports that
heavy purchasing In Australia by the
British government would divert ships
away from the United States. The market
closed unsettled, lc to lo net lower, with
December at ftl.68 and May 1167. Corn
lost 0c and oats c to 0c The
outcome for provisions was unchanged to
2744c higher.
Depression tn wheat began as soon as
the market opened. wora was st nn
that the first davelooment under the new
plan of complete government control of
wheat imports lor tne unites tvinsuum wm
the buying of an Immense stock In Aun
tralla. 18,600,000 bURhelK. So far as could
ss learned no purchases at all were made
In the United States and Instead of an ex
pected quirk Increase from this country
current advices told only of arrangements
for enlarged loadings in Australia. The
bulls also were hand trapped by continued
rumors that the stocks of wheat In Cana
dian terminal elevators would bo com-
mar.deered, and by a renewal of peace
gossip.
Selling on the declines In the wheat mar
ket aoceared to be overdone, as a rallying
tendency was displayed at times during the
last half of the session, erne reason seemed
to be that the peace tald did not appear
to have any substantial fresh basis, but
rested on recent statements from nana-'
tng sources that Germany was about to
make overtures for a cessation or Hostili
ties. Com sagged with wheat. Ths prevail
ing fine weather was also an advantage
to the bears. For the moot part oats merely
reflected the weakness of other grain. Sell.
Ing pressure was not of an aggressive
Character.
Peace talk was regarded as bullish by the
provision trade. Hlgh-rp rices on hogs
tended further to lift the market

yesterday.
The average cost furnished a poor cri

good hogs were comparatively plentiful,
while tnls morning there was not a choice
load on offer and shippers had a hard time
finding enoush stuff to nil their orders. The
best hogs here sold at $9.50, which was
yesterday's top, but It was certain that
anything as good as yesterday's 19.60 load
would have brought 9.60 and possibly a

orders, but could not till them.
Bulk of the sales was made 'at 19.250

Sheep The supply of sheep and lambs
was the smallest reived here on a Wednes

which put the total for the first hslf of

The Windy. City also reported another

a fresh slump, and on the strength of this
packers were bearish on early rounds. Total
offerings were very moderate though, and
as only a small shsre of the supply was

jnejr eventually carried tneir point, too, for
packers wanted the lambs, and prices were
