The cash wheat situation was oulte ac
tlve, but prices were rather Irregular, th
market being quoted from tic higher to lu
tower. The wheat run waa quite heavy and
the demand, while It waa not aa strong as
usual, waa sufficient to take care of the
receluta at the Drevalllna orlcea.
The bulk of the No. 2 white sold at 11.11
and the No. 1 hard sod at ll.M4f Mitt,
few choice care selling at slightly better
prices.
The corn market was very alow and re
ceipts or this cereal continued light,
The demand tor white corn waa very poor
and the market aenerallr rrr?d from un
changed to lo lower. No. yellow sold at
84e, the top price for the day, and white
and mixed corn of the same grade sold
around OOOlltte.
The oats market was a trifle weak ana
sold from O tto lower. The demand was
fair and the bulk of the receipts sold at 46o.

Chicago, Oct 7. Wheat prices took an
upward wly today, influenced chiefly by
official denials that Ambassador Oerard'e
visit to the United States had anything to
do with peace proposals. The market closed
etrong, lo to 0o net higher, with De
cember at $1.60 and May at $1.6$. Corn
gainea c, oats sinisnea unchanged to
shade lower, and provisions unchanged to
11 cents higher.
Liverpool advices, telling of fears of re
newed submarine activity, were Ignored, and
the da-r'a business was over before the Ger
man undersea war craft had arrived after
crossing the Atlantic, and apparently waa
in a position to work unexampled havoe In
shipping. Unmindful of suoh a contingency,
the wheat pit gave attention to the bullish
news at hand, which Included rumors that
the British government would commander
the Canadian eupply of wheat.
Announcement that damage from drouth
In Argentina was being extended on a
broad scale, did much to strengthen the
wheat market here. Sharp increases In quo
tations at Buenos Ay res gave a stimulus to
buying, and so, too, did signs of a decrease
In the United States visible supply total
on Monday.
Corn rallied with wheat. Oats averaged a
trifle lower, despite the strength of other
grain. Receipts of oats here this week
more than quadrupled the amount for the
corresponding time last year.
Higher prices on hogs afforded A basis for
a ris In provisions. Lard touched the
highest levsl In forty years.
Prospects of a larger crop movement next
week had a bearish Influence on corn. The
bulge In wheat formed only a temporary off

experienced another slight chill In the first
of th two-hour session, but more than re
covered, closing with a strong undertone
and numerous net advancea
Much of the heavy trading of the first
hour waa attributed to an eager short In
terest and liquidation from Interior points.
It was regarded as significant that rallies
and actual gains were effected on very
moderate dealings as compared with the
heavy transactions that accompanied the
decline. Total ealea amounted to 086,000
shares.
Trade reports were In Una with similar
Intelligence of the last few months super
abundant prosperity. Ttana exchanges con
tinued on a phenomenal scale with exports
of raw and manufactured produota- making
greater strides.
Other features of Ike day Included the
discharge of the Mercantile Marine receiver
ship, restoring the property to the share
holder, and additional railway statementa,
notably the August report of the Chicago,
