Adele Davis, the charming daughter

The White Shrine Whist club will

The Friday Night Dancing club
gave its regular weekly party last

spite of the fact that this was the
night of the Ak-Sar-Ben ball about
fifty couples were present and this
number waa increased late in the

ning some special parties for the lat
ter part of this month and early No
vember and full plans will be an
nounced very shortly.
Steyer-Madura Wedding.
Among the leading socikl events of
the week in South Side circles was the
wedding Wednesday of Miss Helen
Madura to Mr. Rudolph Steyer. Miss
Madura is the eldest daughter of
Frank Madura, who has been a prom
inent citizen of the South Side - for
the last twenty-eight years, and Mr.
Steyer, one of the rising young busi
ness men' of the city, who contem
plates establishing himaelf in the
thriving city of Valparaiso, Neb., in a
short time.
The ceremony was performed in St
Francis church, with Rev. Father
Gluba as celebrant Rev. Joseph Au
gustyn of Elba, Neb., being deacon
and Rev. N. Steyn of St. Piul, Minn.,
being sub-deacon at the solemn high
mass. The wedding hymn was sung
by the choir of St Francis church, of
which the bride was a member for the
last ten years. Mr. Frank Steyer,
brother of the groom, was best man
and the bride was attended by Miss
Grace Freeman. Decorations in the
church were elaborate, including
palms and autumn flowers appropri
ate for the season.
Following the wedding ceremonies
a most bounteous wedding breakfast
was served at the bride's residence,

Fee to Poor Woman
A lawyer of considerable reputa
tion secured a fee from a woman in
police court for whom he failed to
give value received. The police magis
trate after hearing the woman's story
payed back the fee of $3 from his
own pocket! "We'll have nothing
like that in this court," vouchsafed
the magistrate as he tendered the
coin.
Metropolitan Club to
Open Winter Season
The .Metropolitan club house, 2301
Harney stre:t, will open for the win
ter season October 10 under the man
agement of Miss Evelyn McCaffrey.
Miss McCaffrey has great plans for
the season that will make. the club
house a popular social center. Already
quite a number of social events have
been booked for the near future.
Swimming parties will be numerous
and an expert swimming instructor
has been engaged to teach swimming
and diving."
Miss Florence Deming, a graduate
of Chalif Dancing school of New
York and the Mary Woods Hinman
school of Chicago, and for three years
director of dancing at the Women s
Athletic club of Chicago, will have
charge of the classes in social, aes
thetic and folk dancing.
The club house has been newly
painted, decorated and refurnished in
all departments. The parlors, ball
room, halls and other rooms present
an attractive and aristocratic appear
ance. The pool, whicn is supplied
with warm water, is kept in a sanitary
condition by frequent changes Of the
water. Miss McCaffrey is taking hold
of the club house with an energy that
will produce results.
