ROURKES DROP ONE
TO SAINT JOSEPH
McCabe Ties Score in Kinth
and Sullivan Steals Home
With Winning Run.
OMAHA IS BEATEN, 8 TO 7
V St Joseph, Mo., Sept. 22. (Special
Telegram.) Denny Sullivan, wa the
hero of today's game, for he itole
home in the tenth inning, with the
winning run, but honors muit like
wise go to Billy McCabe, who tied
the score with hi timely triple in
the ninth." r '
It looked to be .all Omaha until
that ninth inning and some of the
faint hearted fans had left the park.
The score at the beginning of the
ninth was 7 to 4, Omaha, and there
seemed to be not a chance in the
world for the final result being other
wise. Then Beers drew a walk, Som
mers struck out, Wright singled and
Otto Williams did likewise, filling
the bases. McCabe catae to the plate,
took one healthy (wing and when
the ball had been recovered, he was
resting on third and the score was
7 all.
In the tenth, things looked dan
gerous for the Josics. . Forsythe, the
first man up, tripled, North walked
and Krause struck out. Thompson
was given his base on balls and with
the bases filled Sommers struck out
the next two men up. The Drum
mers scored as related in the tenth,
Sullivan drawing a walk, McClelland
being safe on an attempted sacrifice
which Marshall lost and Sullivan went
to third.' When McClelland struck at
ball Denny, who was half way down
to the plate before anyone noticed
him, stole home and Krueger dropped
the ball in his nervousness. It was
an exciting game with an exciting
finish. The Rourkes and Drummers
each playing good hall and even with
out that final thriller, the game would
have been a good one.
Rudy Sommers and Harry Krause
were opposed to one another and
both were hit freely, but it was one
of those free-hitting contests which
tana enjoy.
