Marty Pitches Splendid Ball
and Omaha Seta Lincoln
Back a Notch,
rOKSTTHK HITS DOUBLE
Lincoln, Sept. . (Special ..Tele
gram.) Marty O'Toole pitched
splendid ball and with the aid of bril
liant aupport from hit pais lucceeded
in letting the Duckling! down in the
first game of the series, 2 to 1.
The defeat effectually nipped the
forlorn hopei of Lincoln fant for a
Western league pennant.
Omaha gathered all of it run in
the first inning, when Harry .Wil
liams' failure to touch second, baae
tor an easy force-out of Burg, paved
the way for two scores, Thonipion
was safe at first on the play and
' then Krueger walked. Two runs came
in on Cy Forsyth's double,
Lincoln Tang up a run in the sev
enth on two solid knocks, inter
spersed with a walk.
Threatened in Ninth.
The Ducklings were threatened in
the ninth, when Johnson, the second
man up, aingled. He went to third
on East's single and the bases were
filled when Carlisle walked. Harry
Williams and Thomason failed to de
liver in the pinches, however, and the
stuff was off.
In practically every inning the
Ducklings put men on the bases, but
thia only seemed to spur O'oTole on
to greater efforts and he successfully
retired Holmes' men every time a
pinch arose. . -
OToole'a SeCAItll Win
It was OToole's second victory of
the two critical Lincoln-Omaha
" At Omaha last Sunday Marty
held the Links to three hits and won
the front section of that famous
- double bill for the Rourkes.
. After the first inning East
Hurled a good brand of ball and only
once did the league leaders threaten.
I hat was in the fifth. wh
and Thompson singled, but Thomp
son was cut down on an attempted
double steal. ,
The Rourke victory gives the Oma
", ' ven games in
the fight for the pennsnt. Should
Krugs irew take one of the games
today or tomorrow the pennant will
beconceded them.
Otto Men is expected to hurl for
Omaha today against Jack Halla.

Honus Wagner Hurt )
. For Third Time
Pittsburgh, Pa - Sept. 1. Honus
Wagner, veteran shortstop of the
Pittsburgh Nationals, will probably
not be able to play again thitseason
owing to a series of injuries sus
tained during the last mouth. He
was out ten days as a result of an in
jured thumb and finger; when these
healed he twisted a ligament in his
leg. This injury waa improving when
Wednesday Wagner went in . as a
pinch hitter and again hurt his teg.
As there is only one month more
of the season, the shortshtop proba
bly will remain on the bench while
several recruits are being tried out.

, Philadelphia, Sept. 1. A crowd
that filled the stands to their ca
pacity saw Philadelphia draw closer
to first place by twice shutting out
Brooklyn today, 3 to 0 and 6 to 0.
The home team hit the "ball hard,
while Alexander and Rixey were very
effective, especially with men on the
bases. Bancroft, Whitted and Fas-
kert made wonderful plays at critical
moments. Alexander and ' Coombs,
who were tied with what was claimed
to be the major league shut-out rec
ord, at thirteen each, Coombs mak
ing his mark in 1910 and Alexander
this year, opposed each other in the
first game and the Philadelphia star
pushed the mark to fourteen. Score,
