RODRKES FINALLY LICK THE TOPEKS Seven Hits for Nine Runs Gives Merz Plenty of Margin. MARSHALL'S HITS COUNT Tuesday the Rourkes made thir teen hits and lost the game. Wednes day they made ten hits and lost the game. Yesterday they only made seven hits and won the game. The score was 9 to 4. The gallant Rourkes defied and vio lated all the rules of physics, society and the national commish yesterday. Nine runs off seven hits. The To peks say it is an outrage. Every time, with one exception, the Rourkes made a hit they scored a run. In the sixth Joe Berg cracked a double, but if didn't do any good. Marshall Tripled. In the opening stanza four runs were made on two hits. Smith started the frame by coaxing Sanders for a walk. Sanders then muddled up Krug's bunt and both Earl and Marty were safe. Shag Thompson sacrificed and Miller's safety scored Smith. Bobby Marshall sailed a triple to the flag pole, scoring Krug and Miller. Bobby then scored on Forsythe's in field out. Krug beat out an infield hit to start the third. Thompson got a walk and Miller sacrificed. Marshall's sacrifice fly counted Manager Marty, Krug tripled in the fifth and scored on Thompson's grounder to Dcfate. Lucky Seventh Againt -. r The seventh was another good in ning. Smith singled to right and after Krug rolled out, Thompson was safe on Bill Lathrop's muff. Miller walked, filling the bases. Marshall singled to right, scoring Smith and ThOmpsan and- Miller went to third from where he counted on, Forsythe's sacrifice fly. It will be noticed Mr. Marshall's bludgeon cut considerable figure in the victory. He knocked in four runs and scored one himself. A pretty fair day's toil. Otto Merz let the crippled Kaws garner eleven hits, but he kept them well scattered and every time a pinch arosej he fanned Tony Dcfate, the demonistiortstopper from Naples and Kansas. Tony whiffed three Urnes with men on the runway.. The- Rourkes and Kaws will tangle again " this afternoon, starting at 3:15. Saturday Lincoln comes for three games. Today will be ladies' day, Sioux Beat Wolves Fifteen to Four Returning to Form OMAHA. AB. R. II. O. A.
