club of the" Western league here today
the game was forfeited to Wichita by
the technical score of 9 to 0, when
Manager Krug ordered his men to
leave the field to catch a train for
Denver. Both clubs had agreed to
play until 3:30 o'clock, but the Omaha
team found it necessary to stop at 3
. o'clock in order to make the train.

Brooklyn, July 28. Brooklyn made
it three out of four from St. Louis to
day, overcoming a five-run lead and
winning, 9 to 5. The Cardinals
bunched four hits on top of a pass and
a wild throw in the second inning,
scoring five rnns and sending Coombs
to the clubhouse. The Superbas came
back in their half and bunched two
doubles, three singles with passes off
Steel, tvimr the score. Jasper and
Dell then had a pitchers' battle until
the eighth, when, with two men on
bases,, Stengel batted for Dell and
made a triple. Doubles bv Daubert
and Wheat brought the total runs for
the inning up to four. Marquard
pitched the ninth and held the Car

Benton were responsible for both of

Herzog placed the runners on base.
New York then won on a wild pitch.
Burns opened the tenth with a single.
Clark fumbled Dovle's sacrifice bunt

Colors and Monogram
Directors of the Omaha Athletic
club, Thursday afternoon, in addition
to electing a new secretary, John C
Wharton, to take charee of the cam
paign for members, adopted club col
ors and ordered new stationery. '
I he colors are red, white and club.
A monogram was ordered. The new
stationery will bear this monogram,
A secret committee was named, to
pass upon applications for 'member
ship. When this committee passes
upon the applications, the directors
will vote the applicants in.
resident W. A. fraser was author
ized to name an adviiorv board of
twenty-five members, to assist, the di
rectors in the management of the
club.
Mr. Wharton, as secretary, succeeds
William Schall, who resigned because
he was too busy to devote tinie to the
club. Mr. Wharton will take charge
as soon as he is relieved from the
poatoffice, which will be in a few
days. .
Detroit BuysEhmke
From Syracuse
Syracuse. N. Y.."july 23. Howard
Ehmke, leading pitcher in the New
York State leaHue. with nineteen
victories and five defeata to date, was
today sold by the Syracuse club to
the Detroit American league team.
The, price was not announced, but
Manager u Weill said it was the bm-
gest sum ever paid for a pitcher in
the State league. It is believed that
about $4,000 was the sum. Pitcher
Boehler of the Tigers will come here
in part payment. Ehmke will not join
Detroit until after the close of the
State league season, in September. '

Chicago. lulv 28. Bands must cease
playing in American league ball
parks while games are in progress,
according to a ruling made today by
President Johnson. His decision was
the result of a protest made by the
Cleveland , clup because ; Umpire
O'Loughlin Stopped a band in the In
dians' park.

Shawkey's great pitching, enabled the
league leaders to make it two straight
from Chicago today, 5 to 3. Shawkey
did not allow a hit until the eighth
inning and only two White Sox got
on the paths prior to this, on an er
ror and a"baje on balls. He weakened,'
however, 'in. the ninth and the locals
touched him for five hits which re

Five Case of Infantile Paral
ysis Reported at Mason

CAMP DODGE IS QUIET
Des Mdines, Is., July 28. (Special
Telegram.) State officials yesterday
received a report, from Dr. A. L.
Wheeler, health officer at Mason City,
that there are five cases of infantile
paralysis in Mason City. This brines
the total number of cases of this dis
ease, in Iowa to nineteen. Previous
to yesterday the State Board of
Sealth had received no reports from
ason City. There were rumors
that the disease had gained a foot
hold there, but nothing definite was
known. Mason City was flit hardest
in 1910 by the epidemic of infantile
paralysis. . At that time Cerro Gordo
county had seventy-six eases, of
which sixty were in Mason City.
There were a number of deaths.
Camp Dodge Quiet Place. -Recruiting
and mustering officers
at Camp Dodge report they are han
dicapped by the lack of enlistment
papers, which the War department
has failed to send. Officers have
been sent to other cities to enlist
men, but they have ho papers. No
new recruits have reached camp as
yet, but some are exnected within the
next few days. Colonel George Mor
gan is still at camp and will probably
be kept there by the War department
until the recruiting campaign ia fin-
sneo. A small camp of sixty-five
men is still at Camp Dodge. ; ,
Hog Cholera Losses.'
Iowa farmers lost 476,712 : hogs
through hog cholera In 1915, accord
ing to a report issued yesterday by
A. R, Corey,, secretary, of the Iowa
Board of Agriculture. : The loss fig
ures $4,767,120. The loss from chol
era in 1915 was about one-fifth the
loss bv this disease in ' 1911 The
farmers in 1913 reported 2,709,876
hogs died of cholera. - The-loss fig
ured $27,098,760. The department re-
Jorted 9,361,882 hogs on Iowa farms
uly 1, 1915, as against 9,397,273 in
1913. The department did not collect
statistics for 1914, as these were in
cluded in the census. i
Private Banks Change. "
The' biennial reoort of the State
Banking department 1 for the period
ending June 30, 1916, now being pre
pared, will show that thirty-five
private banks have organized under
state supervision in the last two years.

vision of the State Banking! depart
ment '.There were 115 new banks
organised in the last two years. Eight
state banks nationalised and two were
consolidated with others, so that the
net gain in number of banks in the

State Officers, Want Building.
An office building to cost $300,000,
contemolated in the capitol extension
improvements, will be asked tor by
the state officials when the next leg
islature meets. The lawyers and the
justices of the supreme court want a
temple ot justice tor nousing tne su
preme court, law library and attorney
general s ottice.
Rockwell City Buildings.
W. J. Dixon, chairman of the state
board of control, has been in Rock
well City this week at the Woman's
reformatory site' planning the loca
tions of the twenty-eight buildings to
be erected there. Six buildings are to
he started this season as follows: Ad
ministration building, oatholoey build
ing, power house, service building ana
two cottages. : .

W. N. Snodgrass of Iowa Falls is
the president of three clothing com
panies vjhich incorporated today. The
Snodcrass-Bauman company, capital
ized at $15,000, will have a store at
Manson. AG. Bauman is secretary
of this company. The Snodgrass
Mann company,, also capitalized at
$15,000, will have a store at Man
chester. R. A. Mann is secretary of
this concern. The Snodgrass-Keister
company will have a store at Parkers
burg. This is also capitalized at $15,
000. F. J. Keiser is the secretary.

The Lincoln womsn came from the
rear and won after Mrs. Stewart had
taken an early lead. Miss Pound lost .
the first hole, but evened matters on
the second. Miss Stewart won the
third,' and Miss Pound the fourth.
Then Mrs. Stewart copped two
straight holes, and was 2 up when
Miss Pound started out. to make up
tor lost time.
Miss Found took the seyenth hole
in par, a S. The women halved the
eighth in 4s, and Mias Pound took
the ninth with a 4 when Mrs. Stewart
drove into the rough.

Mitchell, near Dodge, ' suffered the
loss of a part of his right foot when
the member slipped into the machine
while it was in motion.
The machine became filled with
straw and in an attempt to relieve the
congested condition Mr. Mucken
dorfer stuck his foot into the opening.
