SOOKE IS A TIE AT 3 TO 3
Omaha wai handed a bate ball
Same on a silver ptatter yesterday
afternoon fater three hours and
twenty-6ve minutes of toil had failed
to produce results. Umpire Eckman
was the gentleman who donated the
gift combat
With the score deadlocked, 3 to 3,
' and the sixteenth inning due to come
up, and the sun sinking low in the
well-known west, Eckman forfeited
the fray to the de luke Rourklets
because Jack Holland refused to re
move himself" from the St Joseph
rathskeller when ordered to do so by
his umps. ' After delivering his ulti
matum, Eckman gave Holland just
jive minutes to sheo himself out of
sight Jack refused to depart, so
Eckman made good his word and
informed the smattering of ladies
and gentlemen who remained In the
stands tha tthe game was Omaha's.
. r ; Pitchers' Duel.
. The pastime was a corker and
caused the bugs palpitations of the
heart on numerous occasions. It was
a pitchers' duel between Harry
Krause and Sommers, both: south
paws, and both of whom, hurled nifty
games. i .
For fourteen rounds the-store ran
' at 1 to 1. The Rourkes scored the
first marker of the event in the
fourth on Forsythe's triple, which
Kirkham misjudged, and Kilduff's
sacrifice fly. Krause, Smith and Krug
singled consecutively after .the run
-was scored, but the hitting failed to
produce the results. The Josies
rnunted thei? rally in the sixth, when
Krause and Miller became balmy in
the bean and permitted a couple of
, hits to ooze awav from them. Mc-
Cabe and Jourdan were both safe
when Harry and Kay got crossed ana
McCabe galloped home, when wil
liams sliooed a third infield hit by .
- From the sixth to the fifteenth
neither side counted. But in the fit
leenth St Joseph sot to Krause. Aft
er Kirkham struck out, McCabe
reefed a double into center on a slow
ball and Jourdan was purposely
walked. In walking Jourdan, Krug
and Krause missed a guess because
Rigsby, who followed, sunk a safety
Into right scoring McCabe. Jourdan
went to third, from which sack he
scored, when Sullivan beat out a
dinky roller to Miller.
Rourkes Com Back.
Then came the excitement for the
lew fans who took a chance on cold
suppers. Williams got into an argu
ment with Eckman and the umps
chucked him out of the park. Mc
Cabe " was switched to second bay
' and Roy Patterson went into center
field. Kewpie Kilduff opened the
. home half of the fifteenth with a
ripping drive into center. Patterson
. failed to reach it and Kewpie got a
two-bagger, Irelan singled (b left,
, sending Kewpie to third. A pitch hit
Krause's bat when Harry was at-
. tempting to duck away from it and
pitcher's box. Kilduff easily scored
' and Ireland went to second. He went
; to third on a wild pitch and scored
thetying run on Earl Smith's single
to right
When the Josies came in from the
. field they said things to Eckman be
cause the Josies figured if Williams
hadn't been kicked from the game
McCable would still bave been in
center field and would have caught
Kilduffs drive. Maybe he would and
' maybe he wouldn t, but the .Josies
thought he would, and they put the
blame on Eck. This got Eckman
; sore, so he bounced Holland, and
. when Holland refused to leave, for
feited the game and saved a few
more innings and valuable time.
Smith and Kewpie Star.
The game was featured by sensa
tional fielding. Earl Smith and Kew
pie Kilduff were the stars. Earl han
dled seven-chances in left and four
of them were wonderful catches, two
of them while going back and two
coming up for liners that looked like
sure hits. Kilduff made a one-hand-,
d stop of a grounder that turned
him clear around. In completing the
turn he threw true to Miller and
made the out even thuogh he didn't
' have time to set himself for the
: throw. It was one of the best stops
ever made in Rourke park and it
didn't seem possible to make the out
after be had made the atop, but he
' tiid it Buck Weaver nor Jack Barry
ever made a better stop than Kewpie
did-yestertay.- 1 .
Ted Jourdan of the Drummers and
McCabe and Sullivan also had a hand
. in the sensational fielding work.
St loseoh concludes its stav here
today with a game, at 3:15 this after
noon, Marty u loole and ilovlik
probably .will. oppose each other. It
