CHICAGO CHAIN AND 1' BO VIM ON.
Wheat Market Opena Higher on BulUeb
Foreign Advlcca.
Chicago, July II. Denlala that black ruat
haa apread Into Canada tended today to
make wheat tradcra ao mew hat akeptlcal re
garding damage re port e. Accordingly, the
market, although pointed upward much of
th time, cloaed unaettled at 0c to c
net decline, with July $141 and Septem
ber $1.12. Corn gained c to c, oato
loet c to c and provlalona flnlahed
irregular, ranging from 10c to a rlae , of
12e.
For the moit part tranaaetlona In wheat
were of a acalplng character and were
not governed by any well defined aentlment
aa to values Aaaertiona that ylelda and
quality of the aprlng crop haa been aerl
oualy Impaired by black ruat led to con
tinued uneaalneaa, and there were re porta
from aoina authorities that the ruat sporea
had already attacked the ateraa of the
plant. Unqualified contradiction, how
ever, of yeaterday'a advlcea that the peat
had apread northward over the Canadian
border did a great deal to bring about
rather aggreaalve aelllng at tlmea on the
hard epoia In the market. The relative
weukntf of quotation tn the northweat
served alao to handicap the bulla here.
Would-b-i purchasers of wheat gavo con
siderable attention to Liverpool dlepatchea,
aaylng the unfavorable weather In all pro
ducing count rlea wad caualng Brltlth buyers
to become nervoua. In this connection It
waa polntad out that In U04 black ruat re
suited In a croj. ahrlttkage of 69,000,000
buahela during July and August and that
meanwhile the Chicago market advanced
26c a buahel. Export aulea today were esti
mated at 600,000 buahela, Including 100,000
buahela new hard winter wheat to be
ehtpped by way of the Gulf of Mexico.
Corn, unlike wheat, maintained a Arm
tone. Serloua complaints of heat and
drouth were received, especially from
Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas. Only one of
the government stations In Oklahoma
shows any rain since July' 1.- Speculative
selling weakened oata. Hot weather dam
age reports had merely a transient bullish
effect.
Provisions averaged higher with hogs.
Late sales, however, of 1,000,000 pounds of
lard by a leading trader suemed to operate
at least temporarily a a check on buyers.
