RODRKES AGAIN
BEATEOY KAW S
lopeka Landi on Gaskell in
' Eighth, Batting Home
Three Bum.
LOCALS LOSE EARLY LEAD
The gentlemen from Topeka roae
up in their wrath' in the eighth in
ning yesterday afternoon and ham
mered the stuffing out of Prince Gas
Veil, winning their aecond straight
from the Rourkea, 4 to 2.
Up to thii distressing episode, all
was lovely from the standpoint of
the locals. Gaskell had been pitching
tight ball, allowing but two hits, one
a scratch, until the deluge, and ' the
' Rourkes had been holding the lead
by a one-run margin.
But then it happened, and the game
went glimmering in short order.
Gaskell , was sent into pitch his
first game for the Rourkes, having
been picked up recently when Sioux
City released him, Pa Rourke plan
ning to use him while North is out
; of the game. ; - -; . ,
He might have gotten away all
right but for aome doubtful playing
ind a bit of misplaced strategy.
Triples Give Rourkes Run.
' Henning pitched-steady ball all the
way through, despite the fact that he
was dented' for eight hits, including
three triples. Two of these triples
figured in the only runs the Rourkes
jot. Forsythe hit to the- right field
fence in the fourth for aitrlo Of acks
ind rode home on Kilduff s line drive
to tenter. Thompson got his triple
in the ijxth, and scored on Miller's
single through the drawn-in infield.
Kilduff missed Agler's hard ground
er the sixth and he landed safely
it first. A sacrifice put him on aec
ond and Goodwin's single scored
him. . ". i " !
The big noise in the eighth was
opened with a double by Agler, after
two were down. Engle followed with
a single, scoring Agler. Krutrer hit an
easy grounder to Krug, who had a
chance for a double play, but lost
enough time touching Goodwin, who
was caught between first and second,
to permit Kruger to reach aecond.
Recruit Break Up Game.
It was decided to walk Cochran,
filling the bases, in order to take a
chance on Delate, recruit Kaw short
stopper, and Defate, 1 peeved at this
evidence of disrespect, leaned upon
the ball so vehemently that he reached
1 second base before Forsythe could
get the ball back into the game from
'the right field fence. In the meantime
Er.tfjt and Kruger scored the winning
ru,.s. Allen grounded out, but as the
Rourkes eouldrtH touch Henning in
their final two 'innings i the damage
was done. , a '
Topeka winds up the series today
and the Rourkes must win to ge an
even break. Denver is next. ....,.!"
