HEAVY RAINS DAMAGE FIRST CUT OF ALFALFA Reports coming to the railroads and shipments coming to the Omaha Hay exchange indicate that through out Nebraska the first cutting of this year's crop of alfalfa bai been con siderably damaged by the-frequent and heavy rains that have been so .general during the last three weeks or so. The earliest cuttings of the alfalfa went into the stack in good condition, most of it having been cured before the rains set in. Afterward a sort of a rainy season, something unusual, set in and out in the state for two or three weeks there was hardly a day when there was not rain. The crop had, to be harvested and the farmers, between . ihowers, went on cutting, hoping that the rain would cease. However, it did not and the result is that throughout this state and Kan sas there is a large quantity of talfa hay that is badly discolored and musty. On -the Omaha market alfalfa of good quality, is in excellent demand and is selling at $10 to $11 per ton, while that which is considered of sec ond grade fetches $7 to $9, while the discolored, or that has been heated, is practically worthless. The coun try has been notified to withhold ship ments oi poor quality. There is but little of the alfalfa of last year's crop available, but what little there Is is worth around $11 to $12 per ton.
