HOOB Under the Influence of a shipper
demand that refused to wait for anything
and an squally urgent packer request, prloe
reacted sharply this morning, more than
recovering yesterday's slump. Shipper buy
or dtd not wait for reports from other
riots, biit started buying hogs before the
o'clock whistle had quit blowing and
packers soon followed suit, the result being
that long before 9 o'clock nearly every thlpg
had been cleaned up.
Early reports from outside points Indi
cated that slight advances were In order,
but no Intimation was received that the
upturn would amount to more than at the
- outside 101Oe, The result was that both
shippers and packets got a few hogs right
at the start that were sot over 1010c
, shove Monday's average. As soon as sell
ers realised the strength of the demand,
however, they bogaa asking figures that
were 16c or more up. This did not halt tho
movement at alt, and hogs kept right on
moving freely, most of the sales being made
at a 19011c advance, while on the close,
which was tho best of the day, values were
fully 16c better, and some of the radical
traders quoted mora advances than that In
oitreme cases. -
At any rata, It waa ope of the hettsst
affairs seen here la some tints, and that la
saying a good deal, as laat week's market
were anything but slow. As noted, the aver
av trade was fully 100 ISo" higher, most of
tho sales being mad at I9.4l09.il, with
good showing up to 19.10 and a top of
I.I6, paid for a piece of a load.
Receipts war liberal aa compared with
most recent Tuesday. the arrival
counting out 182 cars or 10,700 head. The
two days' toUl la 11,111, aa against 18,220
last week, 16,011 two weeks ago and 28,713
last year. Supplies so far this week are
larger than tor any similar period alnoe
five weeks ago.
