CHICAGO GRAIN" AND PROVISION'S.
Features of Market and Cash Prices On the
Board of Trade.,
Chicago, June 17. Expected pressure from
the new crop resulted today In tho wheat
market falling to Virtually 11.00 a buahel.
Prices closed unsettled, 0c to 1G1
down, with July at $1.00 and September
at 11.02. Corn lost o to C and
oats 0a to c. In provisions, the out
come ranged from 60 decline to a rise of'lOc.
Bears ruled the wheat pit throughout the
session. -Holders could discern no relief In
sight from Europe and gave plele evidence
of anxiety over reports that country dealers
were asking for bids on new wheal. Accord
ing to a leading authority, the market
(teemed to be waterlogged with aupplles of
ota wneat ana to be entirely unable to with
stand hedging sales that appeared Immi
nent on account of the northward aproad
of the 1918 harvoflt. One foreign govern
ment, said to be either Prance or Italy, was
reported to be inquiring for wheat, but tho
bids were exclusively for shipments from
Manitoba.
Harvesting In Kansas, which was sched
uled to begm early next week, had much
to do with the prevailing fear that hedging
sales 1 of wheat would develop unwlcldlyj
volutnp. Consequent liquidation In short sell
ing received no Jmport&hr check until In
the laat hour the July option barely missed
touching the dollar mark. Speculators who
anticipated many resting orders to buy at
the even dollar took offerings freely at
o to above that leel. The price
reached today are the lowest yet this season.
Corn sagged with wheat. Bearish factors
Included favorable weather and enlarged
rural offerings. Excellent field conditions
weakened oats. A good-slsed decrease In
stocks next week, however, was looked for.
Reports that the Belgian Relief commie- :
slon was actively buying lard and meats
rallied the provision market. At first, lower
prices on hogs had a depressing effect.

HOGS After having made aa advance of
704Oc during the flret five days of the

tent of 6010c. The demand was Still good
this morning, so that buyers were on deck
at an early hour and a few hogs sold dur
ing the first rounds at prices that were only
6c lower than yeeterday'e market. A little
later on as advices from other selling potnte
Indicated a considerable decline elsewhere
the market here eased off, becoming 10c
lower and closing fully that much lower
than yesterday's average. The bulk of all
the hogs sold at 89.4009. 65, with a top at
19.86, as against a bulk yesterday of 39.60

that everything, barring a few scattering
loads, had changed hands by 9:30 or soup
after.

SHEEP There were no sheep, at least
none of any consequence, this moralng, but
for the week receipts have been the larg
est since the laat week In April. At the
same time the character of the receipt has
been making a noticeable change. . The
eason of the year la at hand when fed
stock la supposed to be pretty much all dis
posed of and when range stock should be
gin putting In an appearance. That has
been 'the situation this week, the arrivals
containing a much larger proportion of
rangers and a corresponding smaller per
centage of fed stock than any previous
week this year.
Another change that la always anticipated
for this season Is the gradual change or
readjustment In prices to fit range stock
Accordingly markets at all points have
been rapidly dropping down from a corn-fed
basis to a grass baais. Prices are every
where aharpiy lower on shorn stock. ''Shorn
yearlings are 76c and In many cases as much
as $1.00 or $1.26 lower than a week ago.
