ZOUAVE BAND LEAVES FOR
SUMMER'S WORK.
A $5,000,000 increase in the stocR
of the Packard Motor Car company
was authorized by the stockholders
in a meeting at the Detroit offices of
the company. The directors of the
company were authorized to issue the
slock at llit'ir rwn discretion.
This stock increase represents earn
ings which have been put back into
the business in the form ofiiew build
ings and equipment.
An amendment to the by-laws of
the company, creating the position of
chairman of the board, was adopted.
Henry a. Joy, who has resigned as
president, becomes chairman of the
board of directors. Alvan Macauley,
vice president and general manager,
steps into the presidency of the com
pany. This change is being made at
the request of Mr. Joy, who for more
than a year has been delegating to
Mr. Macauley the executive respon
sibilities of a rapidly increasing business.
With the additional stock, there is
$13,000,000 of authorized common
stock. The $8,000,000 of authorized
preferred stock wasiot changed. The
assets of the company are $J3,000,000.
Earnings of the company for the
current fiscal year are estimated at
60 per cent on the $8,000,000 of com
mon stock now issued and outstand
ing after allowing $1,700,000 for de
preciation. The company has declar
ed the regular quarterly dividend of
lii per cent on the preferred stock,
payable June IS, to stockholders of
record on May il.

MISS ALMA HUNTLEY.
Twenty members of Ewing's Zou
ave band gathered here Friday for
final rehearsal for their summer tour,
which begins today with a week's en
gagement at the Capitol Beach
amusement park, Lincon. The solo
ist who will accompany the band is
Miss Alma Huntley of Omaha, who
traveled with the organization last
ummer. Twelve of the twenty band
men are university students from
Champaign, III. They are defray
ing college expenses by this aummer
work. The Zouave band will be re-

membered as one of the features of
the Ak-Sar-Ben carnival of 1912.
This is the first tri west for most
of the university boys, and they ex
pressed themselves as more than
pleased with the commercial activity,
the attractiveness and the friendly
spirit to the stranger by Omaha.

Unless 'all plans go astray or the
weather man begins to wreak his per
nicious vengeance, when the de luxe
RoUrkes trot into Rourke field Tues
day afternoon they will be greeted by
3,000 or 4,000 ardent fans and fanettes
who have been watching the sensa
tional campaign of Krug's men on the
road with a joyous glee that has
only been hindered by the fact that
Omaha hasn't been able to see the
games with its own optics.
The Rourkes have now played
eighteen games on the road. Of the
eighteen combats twelve resulted in
victories, five in defeats and one was
tied. That is some record for a road
trip even though it isn't quite up to
the mark set by the Giants, and it
carried them from third place to the
top.
The Rourkes started their campaign
in Des Moines, where they captured
three out of four. A temporary set
back was received at Witchita, where
the Wolves nailed two out of three.
But Krug's crew hit their stride again
at Denver and walked off with three
out of four again. The Topeka Kawa
were victims for three victories and
no defeats. One tie was played in
Kawtown. Omaha has played Topeka
seven games now and has captured
every one. Two out of three have
ibeen captured at St. Joseph, where
Omaha plays again today.
Everybody Is Going Oood.
Every member of the Rourke team
isp laying good ball. Everybody is
hitting well and the fielding is excel
lent and the hurlers are going good.
Every city in' the league has pro
claimed the Rourkes the class of the
loop.
If the other cities can boost Omaha,
Omaha ought to be able to do so, too,
and the best way to do it is to atttend
the games. A number of business
houses have purchased seats for the
Tuesday game, the day the Rourklets
return home. It will tie a kind of in
formal Booster day. The Commercial
club and the Rotary club are boost
ing, and if the attendance falls below
3,000 it will be a big disappointment.
