In further disregard of political conditions, which lost none of tnetr "uncertainties and complexities during the session today's market was lifted to irregular levels. There were a few off setting features, but those were due. tn the main to technical or specific rsonj. Trading was active during the first and last hours, but' dwindled during the Inter mediate stage, when Wall Streets atten tion was diverted toward Chicago, where events seemt-d to be shaping In the direc tion of a definite end. Wheat jumped tttt In price today chiefly as a consequence of the government crop report IndlcatlngVthe yield In ths United State this season would fall short of the 1016 total by almost 100,000,000 bushels. Corn lost a shads to Ho. oats gained UtfH to' o and provisions finished irregular, ranging from 7o decline to a. rise of I0c, Fro buying lifted the wheat market In ft hurry right at ths outset, Profit-taking was active on the bulge, but caused only a moderate reaction. Then price again started upward. Influenced by opinions expressed that 10' per' cent as the condition of the spring -crop rendered - a good harvest of spring wheat a most unlikely outcome. In this connection the fact wag pointed out with four exception th percentage named was the lowsst tn fifty years. Under -such circumstances bull remained In easy control of the market throughout the session, al though the top price of th day were not upheld during th last half hour of trading. Bearish news regarding wheat consisted principally of favors ble crop reports from the oouthwest, including assertions of nota ble Improvement In Kansas. Oklahoma sent word that shipments of new grain wore ex pected riy next week. On the other hand, no sale whatever to Europe were reported, except 110,000 bushels at St Louta to go out by way of the Ouif of Mexico. Bearish weather conditions depressed corn in th, final transactions. The total for th five day Is 49,621 head, being; more than 1,900 larger than last week, 4,600 heavier than1 two weeks ago and gain of 1,600 head over the cor responding period year ago. Shipping orders were not. extraordinarily large, but were apparently very urgent, airt) outsid buyer were out early paying fully 6c higher price for what hogs they Heeded, and to more than on In&tauc giving as much as 10o higher, Most other market rnrted Just steady prices early, and the advance given by ship per appeared unwarranted to packer buy ers, who started out with steady bids. Quite a few hogs sold this way, although th balk of the packer purchases looked strong to a shade higher, and a few sellers thougnt their hogs a nickel higher; Movement was active and a good cletvanc! waa mad by 9:30. Sale ranged from ' steady to a nickel higher, with a few shipping bogs a much as 6O10c higher, and averag cost was a rhAde above yesterday's. Hulk of ths sales was msds at 4.6o9.20, with a top of 99.30, which la as nigh as anything ha sold since Monday. The strength the last tw days ha taken price back to Tuesday' a level, but the trade Is still a full 20c below tht close, of last week. SHEEP In addition to th alx cars re ported, there were' thres oars held ever from yesterday , and two or three toads of drive-Ins, so that total offerings were fairly large for the closing day of the week. Demand proved, to be large, and bulk of the freah, receipts, 'as well as the stuff carried irom inursoay, was cieaneo up in good season at price that were ateady to in spots stronger. . Best Iambs here, weighing seventy-six, pounds, sold to 910.10, setting new top for the week. Other light and handy offerings sold as high as 910.10O10.15, with desirable weighty lota around I9.8609.4i), and fair to decent grades on down to 9.26. No sprint lambs of consequence were here, a small package of pretty good native selling; to 911.00. Old sheep were extremely scare and were quoted nominally steady. On deck of rather plain ewe, about all that was on offer In the mutton line, sold at 14.60. In spit of the faot that the trad haa regained a little of Monday' drop on the close of the week, clipped lamb values are still 40c to la moet case s good half dollar below last Friday. Spring lambs, whlcip suffered the long end of Monday's decline, show the most of the week's break. being In many cases as much as 7 to under a week ago. Old ewes showed less decline than anything else Monday, and on the strength of the last two or three days have recovered nearly all they lost, so that they are closing very little lower 'than a week ago. i Quotations on sheep and lambs: lambs. ' ,'. HORSES Receipt of horse hav been very fair thl week, but there haa been no very great activity in the trade, price, tf anything, being a trill easier than a week ago, , The market la strictly a war proposition, there being very little demand for anything except war horses. It might bo well for shippers to hear In mind that French spec! flea t Ions call for horses 16 to 16-1 hands, but It is noticeable that no great number . at horses only 16 hands in height are taken, although some do pas.
