The track was inexcellent condi

HARK, Y GOLFERS,
THE CRISIS NEARS
Troops of President Sherman and
Vice President Hamilton to
Battle Saturday.
WILL nGHfTbBITTER END
If, Saturday afternoon, you should
hear the sullen roar of heavy artillery
cannonading, the shrill scream of the
machine gun, the rasping rattle of
musket firS and then see a score of
Red Cross ambulances in swift flight
toward the Happy Hollow club, have
no fears, the women and children will
be saved.
For on Saturday afternoon a battle
is carded for the Happy Hollow golf!
links that will make the attack on Ver
dun seem like a fray between toy
soldiers. The annual golf match be
tween teams led by President Charles
R. Sherman and Vice President E. O.
Hamilton will be held.
It will be a battle for blood this
year, too. A dinner, the expense ot
which the losers must bear, will be
given the winners June 14, and all of
the opposing players are determined
they will not pay double for their eats.
John Parish has been appointed
field marshal captain ot the Slier
man forces. Yale Holland carries the
same job for the Hamilton brigade.
Parish has called upon his brave
warriors to defend the last trench to
the bitter end. The timber wolves
are howling," says Parish. "Our
president is threatened. Judge Baker
has deserted our ranks and turned
traitor, but we still have Travis Craw
ford."
Holland Makes Appeal.
Holland, on the other hand, makes
just as ardent an appeal to his attack
ing host. "We are to do battle," pro
claims Holland, "with the frowsy
hordes of President Sherman, led by
the ribald and vacuous John Parish.
You are called upon because you are
deemed to be clear of eye, steady of
hand strong of heart and nimble of
lead pencil, able and anxious to lam
bast the everlasting'tar out of any of
this palsied bunch of muscle-bound
short approaching, score card ma
nipulating, boundary-crowding, bunker-infesting
turf diggers that will be
delivered for your slaughter. And if
you fail by as much as one point, may
your favorite club shatter in your
hands, may you never find a lost ball
and may you lose one every hole, may
your handicap be cut to nothing and
your game warrant a hundred, may
you be served by blind caddies, peered
at by beginners, compelled by your
wife to go to church Sunday mornings
and may the curse of all good sub
jects of the good Sheik Boh.im Ilton
be upon you until Charley Johnston
loses his grin and Jon Par Ish shoots
a ninety, that is to say forever."
Yea, verily it will lie some match
and Saturday afternon bids well to
be a busy time for the hospital corpi.
