PLANK HOPES TO PITCH UNTIL
HE IS FORTY-FIVE.
LDDI& fiANK
Kddie Flank, the former Athletic
and St. I.ouis Federal pitcher, who is
now with the Browns, refuses to be
counted out. He. scoffs at the idea
that he won't amount to much this
season and confounds his critics by
the assertion that l)e expects to keep
on pitching in the majors until he is
45 years old. According to all that
dope, the hero of Gettysburg will stick
around another five years. Jn a gar
rulous moment the other day he con
sented, to talk abonnt himself. Here
is what he ITad to say:
"I've never had a sore arm, and
when I quit the game it will be. be
cause Ftn tired of it, I'm 40 now, but
I'm going to stilk in the big leagues
for fivee more years. At 45 then, I
think I'll be prepared to stay at home,
filching is a job. It must he studied
by the pitcher. He must study the
other fellow, thee batter, and then
give him what he knows he cannot hit.
That's the way I have pitched for 15
years. The fellow with the fast ball
will last longer than the one with the
curve. I'll pitch five fast ones to a
single curve or sdow ball. But the
winning pitcher must have the rom
biuation. He must mix 'em to the bat
ter. Control is the biggest point. If
you can put it where you want, then
you'll win more games than you lose."
