Steel Work on Bank Building is Now Almost Finished The steel skeleton of the new First National bank building, Sixteenth and Farnaiii streets, is now the full four teen stories high. This steel work, which is vr-ry nearly completed, has progressed with remarkable dispatch. Better equipment for handling steel con struction has probably never been in operation in Omaha. During the early nart of the week, the steel work- i ers 'iiit work during one afternoon, jit was said by some they had merely quit for the want of the nccessiarv material to work with for one-half day. Hy others it was said they had quit because of a police demonstra tion made there when some of the striking building laborers had stepped into the building and created some thing of a disturbance. At any rate, it is now given out that tire strike is not to affect the steel work on this building, and that this part of it is soon to be finished. Hoot he Your l ough and Cold, Ir. Dress Reform in Local Swedish Singing Society Cream colored serge trousers, blue serge coat, soft white shirt, navy blue four-in-hand' tie. How is that for comfort snd appearance in a mass chorus of 500? When the local Swed ish Singing society "Nordcn" recent ly submitted this to a referendum vote of the American Union of Swed ish Singers, as a substitute for the regulation full dress, which has been in vogue at all forme, festivals, the singers with one accord answered in the affirmative. The singers will make their initial appearance in this unitorm at the festival concerts at the Omaha Audi torium, June 19 and 20. Iiesides being pleasing to the eye, and giving a measure of comfort to those on the concert stage, the uniforms should make a striking appearance in the parade schedule for Monday after noon, June 19, Deputy Sheriffs ' Bring Home Fish One doesn't need expensive flics and paraphernalia, nor even a long railroad ticket, to catch fish, declares Deputy Sheriff Ed Palmer, who is go ing about exhibiting a snapshot of himself and four friends carrying 125 big fish caught near Elk City. "All you need is to know how to catch "em," Palmer advises, "Andhave plenty of bait," added Deputy Bill Hogan, who was a mem ber of the party. "Be sure to carry your bait in a jug," put in Deputy Jim Lindsey, who also helped betray the fish. George Moore and Chris Christcnscn were the other members of the party. According to the picture, the fish range in size from a senegambian seam squirrel up to the length of a period between drinks when it's George Moore's turn to buy. wmmmmmimmmiJmMwmiiMmmmmmmmmwmmi tun mi liaili-nii-T f 1 ill in " ' .-lA Changes and Improvements In Passenger Service Effective June 4th, 1918 TRAIN NO. 5 "Chicago-Omaha Limited" will leave Chicago at 6:15 p. m. instead of 6:00 p. m., arriving at Omaha at 8:00 a. m., as heretofore; it will be operated into Omaha over the Plattsmouth bridge and our westside, line, carries the Observation-club car, with lounging room for women.
