grasping after their rewards in cases
of tuberculosis and many other
diseases, a condition of affairs made,

President Dr. E. W. Kowe ot Lin
coln put in a plea for state medical
treatment, citing tne steps taken ny
the British along this line, in, Kowe
reviewed the history of medicine from

ing the advance in sanitation and in
various ways to Increase the health

"The croaress of the present era Is
along the line of consolidation of
medical schools end the eradication
of the unfit," he said. "In recent
years the number of such schools in
the United Mates has been reduced
from l6o to ninety-five, and the num
ber of medical students from 28,145

ASKS SALOONS BE CLOSED
A total of 243 saloons in Omaha
would be closed immediately if the
city council should take the action
District Superintendent F. A. High
of the Anti-Saloon league asked them
to take in a petition he filed with the
citv.
He gives the names of the saloons
which have as surety on their bonds
the name of the Illinois Surety com
pany, which company he represents
as bankrupt and insolvent. The peti
tion requests of the council that these
24.3 saloons be closed at once and that
they be kept closed until they fur
