Although organized in the great metropolis twenty-six years ago, this is the first return meet ing ol thg convention, which lends additional senti ment indeed. Reminiscences of the olden davs will therefore be particularly appropos at the dinner for pioneer workers, to be given Saturday evening by Mrs. W illiam Toil Hclniuth. As a member of Sorosis, Mrs. Ilelmiith was one of the organizers of the federation and now holds the office of honorary vice president of this, and honorary president of the New York Stale federation. It is like playing cheerful hostess with a pinching slipper or a pin at right angles somewhere in your frock to take the role of a merrily babbling social recorder when things arc as dull at the bluest nosed old Puritan ever wished them. The Field club opened last evening that wai most welcomed1; and, stepping along in gay sue cession this week are the Field club dinner-dance Tuesday, the Seymour Lake Country club opening Friday evening, and the great event of Saturday evening, the opening of the Country club and likewise, the Happy Hollow club beginning its season. Another Field club activity will be the Ladies' Golf day, set for Friday each week. The club is also making arrangements for women bridge afternoons, limited to members and the out-of-town guests of members. A most interesting junior affair of the week wilt be the play in Jacobs hall Thursday evening, "The Enchanted Forest," dramatized by Miss Le nore Williams and produced under her direction. Honor affairs for brides will make up the ma jority of the home affairs with Miss Harriet Metx rather in the role of star with several very charm ing leads. For the last decade or so we have been so ac customed to connect future bride's preparations w'ith the accumulation of dainty lingerie, the em broidery of the household linen, and all sorts of things, which make up the ultra niceties of living. Rut that was all very lacking in scientific objec tive and a woeful ignoring of the constructive. Next Monday and Tuesday the spring brides will give strict attention to Mrs. Rorer'a lectures. Monday will be the luncheon day, and any girl clever enough to take notes is supposed to be pre pared to earn the reputation of a charming lunch eon hostess, one of the most desired of compli ments among smart femininity. Just as Omaha will v learn next winter, when Dr. James Parton llraney will lecture before the Fine Arts society, about the use of ornamentation, so will the girls learn about the ornamental in the foods, the good and bad art that may be brought into use or abuse. As there are "structural lines" and rules in art construction, so are there lines to follow and a plan it) the garnishing of dishes. A mistake in decoration may rob a dish of dainty suggestion, disqualifying il beyond any redemption from ex liiiMtc flavor or taste. For the hostess who has religiously rf late yesrs been a slavish follower of service a la Kusse, Mrs. Korrr will have a few vrry timely hints and sug gestions from the French, for she sees no reason that the Anient an table and menu may not take the brt of every nation, adapting the modes into a iitix-ts to the tituatiou. Afternoon teas will be the object of the Turs ilav Irt tine, s.tn.lw Ii lirit, t'ahaprs, am! i nl things, I he linuheoii talk will give special attention 10 IiiihIu'oh luiislii-t, i4tuirt. lijh ii-iipt, i hit ken, nun Icttrt and mtladt.
