No Army and Navy
At All, Says Smith
to Concord Club
At a banquet of 100 member of
the Omaha I oncord club at Hotel
Fontenellc last evening Arthur C,
Smith made a plea tor national pre
paredness, lie said:
"This country is in a datigeroua
situation. Its navy is small and
poorly equipped. Our army is a
mere corporal's guard compared with
the armies of other nations."
"Jack" l.elton, new manager of the
Fontenellc. was toastniaster. llollis
Johnson is president of the club and
Herbert Tyler is secretary. The or
ganization was started two months
ago and is similar to the Co-Opera-live
club of Kansas City.
K. L Mehomay and W. T. Grant
of Kansas City, representing the Co
Operative club of their rtly, were
present and urged the affiliation of
the ( oncord club with clubs of vari
ous cities which will . be identified
with a national organization. A con
vention was held in Kansas City
this year to form the national or
ganization. Commissioner Mauley of the Com
mercial club, Federal Judge Wood
rough, Colonel Hinghatn, U, S. A,
and I). M. Vinsonhaler spoke also.
