TO ADD SOME NEEDED ROOM The telephone building at Eight eenth and Douglas streets is to he built four stories higher. Flans have just been completed to construct an additional four stories on this present plant of the Nebraska Telephone com pany east of the Kennedy building. This extension will be made to its present four-story building and the entire structure built back sixty feet to the alley. These improvements will nearly double the present oiitce space of the company. This additional space has been made necessary, according to General Man ager Kelt, because of the unprece dented growth of the telephone com pany in Omaha and adjacent territory the last few years and because of the recent centralization of some of the departments here which brought many additional employes to this city. I lie enlargement of the telephone building will complete the original plans for the structure made when it was erected three years ago' The specifications for the additional floors are now being made and it is expected that the construction will start early this fall. The cost will be about l-'OO,- 000. When the proposed eight-story building is completed it will be used exclusively for office purposes, the two downtown central offices, Doug las and Tyler, being located in the company's building at Eighteenth and Douglas street, it is not contem plated that the local offices in the old F.ighteentli street building will be moved or that the quarters , in the Kennedy building will be given up.
