"On Trial" at the Boyd. Eva Lang came hack yesterday, and she "came back" hsifd, present ing "On Trial" in excellent fashion. The play itself is admirable for sev eral reaons, greatest of which i that it tells a tripping story in a novel way, It i finely put on, and its untiiual settings are skillfully haii illed, so that the effects are perfectly producer!. Additions and changes made in the company since its last appearance here add to it strength, Miss I.ang is in much better health than when she played last at the Hoyd, and her performance last night was tit to her high standard. As the stricken woman, the worried wife, the joyous girl, and finally the wife with her life given back to her, she has a wide range of emotion to cover, and she does it with conscien tious effort and good effect. .Mr. Carleton made a good impres sion, working quietly but sincerely in the leading role, Mr, Holinan, also new to 11s, shows fine capacity as an actor anil promises many good performances for the future. Of course, Frank Deuithorpe, as the froseruting attorney, is good. Mr. Jclniore docs a capital hit of acting just at the end of the play. P.ut the great heart of the audience last night went out to Miss Florence Roberts, a tiny bit uf humanity, member of the Ilenhanl company of Denver, by long odds the cleverest child actor seen in Omaha in many a day. She is winsome, pretty, and attractive in all ways, and acts with the aplomb of a veteran and the titter lack of self consciousness of a child. Miss Lang's company has settled down for what looks like a long run at the Hoyd. Vaudeville at the Orpheum. The final pogram of the season at the Orpheum has three especially at tractive features, all in headline class, and the other four numbers arc tr ling in every respect. For music lovers there is Madame Kleouora de ('isneros, a grand opera diva whose repertory is almost en tirely in Kgnlish, which made her an instantaneous favorite with every one. Her voire is rich in tone finali ties and, in "The Slar-Spangled Ban ner," her closing number, she won an ovation that shook the hone. Grace La Hue, also a vocalist of rare quality, was not a whit less en deared to the audience. Five ittjngs are scheduled for her regular per formance, but she was so well liked that she was compelled to sing three more on the opening night. Another Clifton-Fowler act, called "The Devil He Did," registers suc cessfully on the program. J. K. Kin met as "The Devil" and Guy D'Kn nery have the principal roles and are supported by J'. Barrett and Miss Mary E. Ryan. It is replete with snappy lines and is splendidly inter preted by the performers presenting it. Emma Francis, assisted 'by Har- OMAHA OKItlHrnal. MAflKET.
