WANT MORE PAY FOR
DEPUTY TREASURER
Money Handlers Meeting in Omaha
Listen to All Sorts of Can
didatcs Speak,
BRYAN AND POLLARD TALK
The county treasurers of tha
state -would llk legislation that
would Kirs thm a change to get
soma ot the excess commissions of
the office for their deputlee and help
In the office. The law at present
limits them pretty strictly on this
matter and fixes a schedule of per
. rentage of the collections that are
available for the treasurer himself
and for his deputies.
It was President Peter Mrlntoih of
the Stats Association of County Tras-
Hirers who brought up at ths convention
at the court houss ysstsrdsy, the desir
ability of lllstlon that would srad
tiat th availablo exesss commissions so
that a proper part of them could go to
the deputies when tha collections are so
larss as to make th work of th dep
uties worth mora than they are sched
uled to get by law.
Preeident McMahon sursl that th
new officers of th association tans
step during the ensuing year to get an
able legislative commute that will seek
satisfactory legislation on this point be
fore th next legislature.
No BmImm of Lesjlslatara.
Treasurer William Vre of Omaha said
In hla Judgment the legislature has no
business fixing the salaries of a deputy,
anyway.
"They should glv the treasurer and
the county commlasloners credit for
having sens enough to fix little details
Ilk that." he said, "without muaslng up
th atatut booka with such atuff."
If th count treasurers want to know
who to lect as governor of ths stat
this fall, ther la no reason why they
should not know after tWs convention
closas. They should Jmow something
about the eandlflates for several other
offices, also, for they hav candidate
for various office scheduled to speak
to them.
"Th program looks Ilk a printed an
nouncement of th speakers before a po
litical convention." said an observer
when he had glanced ever th program.
Testerday afternoon Charles W. Bryan
and E. M. Pollard, democratic and re
publican candidates, respectively, for the
nomination for governor, wer befor
th treasurers, speaking on co-operation
between city and county, and agricul
ture, respectively.
A list of candidate to speak today 1
as follows: John I Kennedy, C. 3.
Miles. Judge A. U Button, Charles W.
Pool. Wslter A Oeorge.
Last night th treasurers went to ths
Crpheum theeter in a body. A banquet
is to be given this evening at th Rome
hotel.
Roast far Mr. Hall.
What is th proper way for tha atato
treasurer t make a requisition for
money from th county treasurers waa
1k morning; topic
It make lltU dltfrnc what they
think about It, perhaps, for th supreme
court is even now endaavoring to decide
on this matter, as County Treasursr Wil
liam O. Vr of Douglas county 1as a
test cas in ths court now.
According to th taw th stats auditor
should tnek a check twice a year et th
condition et th books of ths various
county treasurers, determining thereby
jvst how much from each county ta due
ths state treasury. Then tha state treas
urer shall aend eut a regular statement
to th treasurer ot a givn county bow
ing what ts due from his eounty and
asking that it be forwarded.
Don't Like Hla Ssteja.
The county treasurers ssy that State
Treasurer Hall has not been doing this
thing according to form. "He thinks hs
can get money from th counties by lust
aendlng out a blundeibuss letter about
It." ssld en treasurer, "and w don't
think that's th wsy to do."

' The "Road to Wellville" is built that way. And
the password to that road is "right living," in which
food and drink play such a big part
More and more people are waking up to tho need
of banishing from the dietary heavy, indigestible foods,
and food deficient in the vitalizing mineral salts. Food
scientists now hold that the lack of these elements is
ono of the chief causes of a long list of ilja, including
anemia, constipation, nervous prostration, kidney
, t rouble, and so on.
Long ago a food aiow famous was devised to
make up for this lack, and it does it admirably.
That food is
Grape-Nuts
Made of wholo wheat and barley, it contains all the
nutrition of tho grain, including those vital elements
phosphate of potash, etc. which are indispensable for
perfect balance of body, brain and nerves, and for
warding off disease.
This food comes ready to eat, is economical, and
delicious. Digests quickly generally in about one
hour and is full of health-making goodness.
A ration of Grape-Nuts along with other food has
started thousands on the "Road to Wellville."
