A com parison of shipments carried by the rail roads to the different stock market In the writ, prepared by Rate Expert V. O. rowel 1 of the State Hallway commission, howa that Omaha Is the only one of the hiarkets which has increased Its business in receipts of all stock business. The increase In cattle for Omaha was 176,613 head; of hogs, 277,826, and of sheep, CT.151. Kansas City made a small increase In cattle and hogs, but a decrease In eheep. Chicago was the same way, but 'Ft. Louis had a decrease in all three lines. Sioux City had a decrease in sheep, (Denver a decrease in cattle and St. Jo- ph a decrease in hogs. Petitions are being circulated In thl city asking that the names of R. TV. Bauln and I M. Pemberton, the latter being the pres ent Incumbent, he placed on the primary ballot- In April as candidates for Judge of the Eighteenth Judicial district. H. D. Walden, county judge, will begin the circulating of his petition next week as a candidate to succeed himself. It Is stated upon pretty reliable author ity that Fred Hurt, commercial agent of the Rock Island company at Belleville, Kan., will be appointed to succeed the late O. P. Ltston, commercial agent for the road at this place. Who recently passed away. Mr. Hurt formerly served here as agent and was transferred to Belleville when Mr. Ltston was sent back from Lincoln to Beatrice. The Wymore Poultry association will hold Its annual show at Wymore next week, January 4, S and . A large num ber of birds from this vicinity have been entered, and prospects are that the ex hibition will be the best one ever held at that place. Mrs. L. C. Mensing, an old resident of Gage county, living six miles northeast of Wymore, died early Tuesday morning, aged 62 years. She is survived by her husband and one daughter. LINCOLN, Dee. 2 (Special.) Oil com panies which refuse to pay foes to the state for Inspection of their productions will find no market for their wares if Food Commissioner Herman carries out the program he prepared today. Testerday two oil firms notified the commissioner that they would refuse to pay oil inspection fees to the state. This makes three companies in the HM. Today Commissioner Harman announced that retail dealers alt over the state would be ordered to cease handling the product of the offending companies, and the companies will tie notified that no oil will be inspected and no oil allowed to be placed on the 'market unless It Is Inspected. LINCOLN, Dec. 29.-(8peelal.)-Colonel R. O. Strother of Monroe, division com mander of the Nebraska Sons of Veter ans, called on Assistant Adjutant Gen eral A. M. Trimble of the Grand Army of the Republic at the state house today to discus mustering in of new camp in the Junior society. Colonel Strother say that the work of organisation is on the Increase, and that the Grand Army is doing effectual work In several town along organisation lines. (Speclnl.) -Two Omaha drug firms were prosecuted by Food Commissioner Harman thla week for il'egal sale of aspertn. The Ehler pharmacy had In lie possession four packages of the alleged drug, while the Merritt pharmacy No. 1 l'd bout S.iOO tablet.
